Guest
I love Sbarro... :( I'm really not surprised about Blockbuster - esp. with Netflix and Redbox. I can't remember the last time I went there.
GreenKitty
I haven't heard of half of those on the list. But their have been some closings around here, such as Circuit City and a movie theater.
cathmom
Krispy Kreme has been in trouble for a long time.
Colleen
Of those on the list, I've heard of the following: Rite Aid. Chrysler Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Station Casinos. Sbarro. Six Flags. Blockbuster. Krispy Kreme. Rainforest Café Trump Entertainment Resorts Holdings. While I feel for those who would be directly impacted (e.g. lose jobs), I can't say I'd miss any of these. MrsMe
but wouldn't it be condusive to cut down on hours for these companies to save some dough? Depending on the business of course, but to start later, close earlier depending on the type?
elegantlion
Circuit City and Goody's are closing in our town. I've noticed that our Wal-mart seems to be carrying less variety in the food section. I wonder if they are doing away with stocking some brands. Michelle T
Six Flags Magic Mountain is one of the largest (actually, I think it is the largest) employers in our city, to say nothing of the tax revenue it brings in, along with business for local hotels and restaurants. It would be a huge loss here. I'm surprised Toys R Us isn't on that list. They've been teetering for a few years now, and I can't imagine they will make it through another down year. Danestress
what noist of those are. Must be regional. We have a Rite Aid, BlockBuster and of course Krispy Kreme. Losing any of thse would not change my life, though I am very sorry for employees and investers.

If you have ever been to a Rainforest Cafe, well, you would see why they are in trouble. I hear Black Angus is dodgey as well. And Claires is really just a junk shop (IMHO). The store that I love, Ann Taylor, has been on such a list. It isn't supposed to make it this year. I am hoping these stores are replaced with something better. Catherine
My nephew works there and in early January they started closing one hour earlier. I agree-it would be a reasonable way to address a small shortfall.

BearingPoint. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/15-Companies-That-Might-Not-usnews-14279875.html My kids will be heart broken about Claire's, Sbarro's and Blockbuster (this is where their pocket money goes). We got a new Krispy Kreme here about two years ago and it was great for about the first six months and then service just went down the shute. My car came with Sirius radio and I really enjoyed it until my subscription expired but haven't missed it since then. I drive a Chrysler with a seven year warranty so I might miss them if they went out of business. I haven't been to a Six Flags in a decade at least and it's been a few years since I have been to a Rainforest. I have never even heard of the rest. I don't really understand how Blockbuster could be going out of business though. They are the only freestanding video chain left. Does no one rent movies anymore? Does everyone use Netflix? What do you do if you need to see a movie right now? Like last week when we were trying to figure out that movie and it was driving us crazy. I can't imagine if we had to wait for each movie to come in the mail. It could have taken weeks to figure it out. :001_huh:

I absolutely love Netflix and haven't been in a Blockbuster in probably a decade or more! But I live rurally, and when I go into town with the dc the last thing I want to do is browse the movie store! The other option is to rely on dh to pick out movies, but then I would never see any girl movies! Not to mention that the store wouldn't have some of what I want to see anyway. If something is driving me crazy I look it up on imdb.com!

If something is driving me crazy I look it up on imdb.com! We started using Netflix a few months ago. We used to go to our local store, Movie gallery, but haven't been back since. they've had to raise their prices so one visit for us cost more than a month of Netflix. We also have a Blockbuster. I wonder if Movie Gallery is trying to hang on until Blockbuster is gone. Also I've noticed some of our local restaurants have been cutting back hours. One family owned place is now only open Mon-Fri.
KidsHappen
If something is driving me crazy I look it up on imdb.com! Yeah, we didn't know the name of the movie or any of the stars or enough of the plot line to look it up on IMDB. :tongue_smilie: My kids only remembered a few scenes. We must have fast forwarded through five movies. We finally did find it (I think, I am waiting on final confirmation from my oldest) by asking on the forum on IMDB. We have had situations like this in the past as well and it certainly moves faster to be able to go through the possibles quickly. We have rarely had to see a movie right away and then we went to the movie theater (Harry Potter) instead of waiting for video. :) The part about Blockbuster was really meant in jest based in part on my family's quirky OCDness and then the fact that the last standing store of a certain type would fall. Shenan
NOT KRISPY KREME!!!! Ahhhhh! :willy_nilly: Since moving to the middle of nowhere...we have to drive over 30 miles to get MY Krispy Kreme fix every other month...... Hmmm? I wonder if their donuts freeze well? I wonder how much I would need to keep in the freezer in order to have a lifetime supply? Gotta go find the calculator.....:tongue_smilie:

If we want to watch a movie right now, we just use the instant watch option and have it streamed to the computer or the tv through the xbox. That way, we don't even have to drive to the store. Andie
I've noticed that WalMart groceries around here usually open with a variety of product brands. After a couple years, they do away with the majority of them and only carry their own brands. I think it's a deliberate marketing ploy, not an absence of variety. The WalMart *here* recently remodeled and I noticed that they've cut back on many grocery items, including their own line...Great Value? There were a few staples that we always bought that just aren't carried in the closest WM. The bigger one, a little further away, still carries them, though. I'm thankful that we've moved & have more choices for food shopping so we don't have to depend on WM anymore.
