How important is the meningitis vaccine for dorm bound students?
Andie replied to Sharon77's topic in The Chat Board
I will add to the chorus of those that do delayed/selective vaccination but opt for the meningitis shot. We have a history of vaccine reactions, so we're very cautious, and I do wait until 16 so that it's one dose rather than two. -
We were new to PA this school year. It can be overwhelming at first, esp coming from a less complicated state, but the paperwork is actually fairly straightforward in practice. You don't need anything from the school district's website, except the name of the superintendent and the address. You can write the affidavit and objectives yourself - no requirement to use their forms and many districts don't have one anyway. Carry it in and get a receipt or send it certified mail. Remember you don't need to report students before mandatory school age (8). http://askpauline.com and https://pahomeschoollaw.com are good places to start. Good luck!

... so the system recognizes me again. My last signature had my oldest still homeschooling - she starts grad school this month. :)

Could you put in a nearby intersection or address, perhaps?

Lukeion or VP Scholars for latin?
Andie replied to Michelle O. in MO's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
You'll find answers on their site: http://www.lukeion.org/credentials.htm http://www.lukeion.org/faqs.html (Scroll down a bit for workload descriptions.) -
I don't understand why you felt justified in tearing down something posted in your workplace, but apparently don't feel empowered enough to act otherwise. If you are this troubled by the sign, instead of writing another note, or hiding the current one, why not approach the person who wrote it? Or management? (I hope everyone washed their hands after putting the note in and taking the note out of the trash bin.)

I just read your blog post. I'm so sorry your doctors have been so dismissive! It is maddening to hear over and over the same line from so many doctors, especially when their patients are proving them wrong RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR EYES.

Oh, my.:grouphug: This August my (then) seven year old came downstairs complaining of double vision. Long story short, within a week he'd been hospitalized with Lyme meningitis and some other complications. I'll echo everyone else's advice, please get to a doctor who knows Lyme. The "good" (!!!) thing about this apparent cranial nerve involvement is that you'll not have anyone doubting the need for more treatment now. Was it your son or the doctor resisting IV antibiotics? How long has it been since he was diagnosed initially? I'm so sorry you are going through this!

So this friend already knew that you know Tim Allen? If that's the case, I don't think it's name dropping at all. If the person to whom you were speaking didn't already know that, though, I can see how they *might* think it was, since your statement sort of "required" a follow up. "Oh, really? How do you know?" or "You've met him?" I think it could have felt less like you were doing it for attention if you'd said something more complete, like: "I've had the opportunity to meet him/am his best friend/do his taxes/saw him at the grocery/live down the street and he really is as funny as he seems." I don't think *I* would have thought you were name dropping, though.
