Janeway
Anyone have this book? It looks great and I am thinking of ordering it for Christmas. https://www.createspace.com/4030501 edited to add: I just now noticed this was made by a home school mom! Wonder if she is on this board? Edited October 23, 2017 by Janeway

itsheresomewhere
The review on amazon was not good. Do you have a kindle or the kindle app? You could download a preview and check it out.
Seasider
I once read that they considered rotten dormice a delicacy. I have not been interested in ancient Roman food since. 😜
shawthorne44
And a condiment could induce miscarriages. I love reading about pretty much everything Ancient Roman. But, I'd have had a very limited diet back then. Fish would be out, because the fish were fished from where the sewer water was dumped. Condiments would be out, because I wouldn't remember which one was bad. I remember flipping through a Roman cookbook and thinking, "Grapes, hard-boiled eggs and bread would be my diet, woohoo!". Even the good stuff, they seemed to mangle in some way.
MercyA
No, but have you watched the SuperSizers. :D I can't get past the poor little dead pig. And cow head! There's a cow head there! :( We're so divorced from reality as Americans.

Tanaqui
It's rue, probably, that you're thinking will induce a miscarriage. Quite a popular herb back in the day, but not so popular now. It doesn't taste all that good anyway - you won't have to worry about forgetting that it's risky, because it tastes no good to modern Western palates! ErinE
Garum, a fermented fish sauce, was the condiment ancient Romans used. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garum The herb silphium, used to cause miscarriage, is believed to be extinct. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silphium At one point in time, I read a ridiculous number of books on ancient Rome. I have Latin project due at the end of this semester and I'm thinking maybe bringing food would help bolster my wilting grade. :)
