By Hollywood's standard it would probably be considered square. But, it's not square. It's soooo much more. It digs deeper into family relationships and what's truly important. All of this is evidenced by the emotional growth of the lead male character. The movie isn't sugar-coated, but it is gently presented. And, part of it was filmed in my home city (Charlotte)!
