ereks mom
Last night about midnight or so, I put a package of 2 frozen chicken breasts on the edge of the sink. I forgot them until 8 AM. They were thawed, but still cold. I was going to cook them for lunch, but I was hesitant since they'd been out so long, so I put them in the refrigerator, which is where they've been from 8 AM until now. How about it? Would you cook them tomorrow or throw them out?
Mama Lynx
Hmmm. I'd have taken their temperature when I found them. If they were below 40 degrees still, I'd say they were probably ok. How cold were they? how do they smell?
LizzyBee
I'd cook them tomorrow. I thaw meat on the counter all the time and it's never made anyone sick.
beansprouts
I would eat them if they are still cold.
Jumping In Puddles
If they were still cold, I would eat them. Definitely.

Would you cook them tomorrow or throw them out? I'd definitely use them. My family has always thawed all of their meat on the counters, with no ill effects. I usually don't do that as a habit, just to err on the safe side, but I do occasionally, and I wouldn't hesitate to eat food that went from frozen to cold-thawed in just 8 hours. Sparkle
Yep, I'd eat them.
Parabola
I'd eat them too. I always set the next evening's meat out to thaw in the sink overnight, then put it in the fridge in the morning. Never a problem.
Kris
Another "yup." I leave stuff out all night on the counter all the time, and just put the packages in the fridge the next morning. They're still cold -- and we're still here. :D
Pamela H in Texas
I wouldn't hesitate in the slightest. I'd say that over half of all of our food is out longer than that!
fivetails
Okay, I'll be the dissenter :tongue_smilie: ...*I* wouldn't use them - but I'm kinda paranoid about meat, especially chicken.... more than likely, the other ladies are right about it being fine....but since you asked "Would you cook them tomorrow or throw them out?" , I'd have to say that *I* would toss them. Dani n Monies Mom
We also thaw overnight and put in the fridge in the morning. Never been a problem here. I would cook them. Ava
mysticamethyst
Yes, I would eat them. I regularly thaw my meat this way and stick it in the fridge in the morning, or I tend to forget to take something out for dinner that night. So, what are we doing with this chicken, anything good, I need inspiration.:001_smile:
Julie in CA
Usually I'm on the side of eating anything around--but this time, I probably wouldn't. What I *would* have done though, is found them there in the morning, checked to see if they were warm or cool, and if I found them cool I would have immediately cooked them. Putting them back in the fridge after leaving them out...probably not. I'm glad to see that I'm on the conservative side of this one. Sometimes I'm surprised by the things I'd eat that others here wouldn't! :001_smile:
Rosie_0801
Unless I was pregnant, sure. :) Rosie
