bettyandbob Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Since other countries typically put day before month when recording dates. Meaningless question of the day. FTR I sent an apple pie back to school with ds yesterday when his break was over. I won't have time to make pie today. Quote
Amira Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Yeah, it doesn't work with other dating systems, although social media is an effective messenger to spread the observance of pi day. :) 1 Quote
Laura Corin Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Yes - it makes no sense in the UK. Square root day works in both systems though (4.4.16) 2 Quote
kewb Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 But what would one eat on square root day? Pi day is about pie. :) 6 Quote
Bluegoat Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 But what would one eat on square root day? Pi day is about pie. :) Carrot squares. We have pi day in Canada, even though it doesn't make a lot of sense. 3 Quote
Closeacademy Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 In most of Asia they celebrate it as White Day. Since Valentine's Day is the day where girls give chocolate to the boys they like then on White Day the boys give the girls they like white candy. But Pi day is a pretty big deal where I live in Engineering land. Quote

FaithManor Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 We have 4-H on Friday night and will be celebrating a belated PI day with the students. Lots of fun pi day activities including creating poetry with Pilish, a poetical "meter" based on Pi. Since Pi Day is also Einstein's birthday, we will have a belated celebration of that too which means chocolate pie, raspberry pie, cherry pie, and apple pie. I will probably serve up small amounts of ice cream as well. 1 Quote
Daria Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I think that people in other countries should use this day to sing the song American Pie, and eat the ultimate American food -- Apple Pie. 1 Quote
Joyofsixreboot Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 But what would one eat on square root day? Pi day is about pie. :) I am making pi squares just to muddy the waters ( brownies with the pi symbol in frosting on each). 2 Quote
wintermom Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 It's catching on in Canada. I have no idea how we write our dates "officially" as some places do 03.14 and other places 14.03. Canada seems to have one foot in the metric/International world and another in some other world - it might be the US, but who knows. ;) Quote
EmmaNZ Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Oh....I get it!! I knew it was Pi day but had no idea it was because of the date :) 1 Quote

It was never mentioned as being related to the date, but I agree, dates here are all over the place. Now there are always activities at the museum and discovery center and library. Quote
FaithManor Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) And here is my crazy Pi Day poem (3.14159265358979) Sob a wild, a Three deafening mu bovine steer Did chase opossums playfully, Strayed shorthorn. Edited March 14, 2016 by FaithManor 3 Quote

I always assumed one was French (no idea which though lol) But so many companies are American or use American software that 3/14/2016 happens all the time. Quote
Mabelen Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 The date doesn't work in most countries and on top of that the Pi/pie theme only works in English speaking nations. Quote
