lewber
So I've decided on lasagna for Christmas dinner. I'm looking for appetizer ideas. So far we have shrimp and spicy pecans. What else can I serve that's not cheesy or bread?
LifeLovePassion
I always like veggie trays and dip/hummus
cjzimmer1
I'm partial to a fresh fruit tray. A meat based appetizer might be a bit heavy but meatballs are always a good choice or anything wrapped in bacon
Carol in Cal.
Take jicama and cut it into spears. Arrange in a flatish heap on a quiche pan. Then get several colors of citrus and wash very well. I like to use limes, an orange, and a Meyer lemon. A few kumquats are nice if you have them around. Cut the citrus into wedges, pop out the seeds, and nestle upside down into the pan. Leave the kumquats whole for garnish. Guests pick a wedge, squeeze the juice onto the jicama, and then eat it. You can sift some paprika over the jicama before putting the citrus in if you like a little heat. This is really good and it's pretty. Plus almost everyone can eat it.

Q: from your description I'm picturing the citrus nestled in the jicama...is that right? Rind side up?

Yes, so the rinds are really brilliantly colored, and pop against the whiteish jicama.

Carol in Cal.
Blanched, cooled asparagus wrapped in very thin procuitto is very good.
lewber
Thank you for the great suggestions. I decided on shrimp, chipotle pecans, veggie tray, roasted chickpeas and that jicama suggestion. I've never had anything like that before and they had jicama at the grocery, so that will be fun to try.
