katalaska
Please help by recommending your favorite kids' typing program (this would be for mid to late elementary grades and into middle school). TIA!!
Tammy
None of those software programs did the trick. They either didn't stay on the right row long enough....or too long. I used the book with all 4 of my kids. Tammy
Parrothead
I picked Spongebob, but that is just because it is the one I have.
serene
and hated it - pretty boring. They started using Typing Instructor Deluxe about 4th & 7th grade, and still enjoy it. It's more visually interesting, and offers more options for practicing. Three years later, they will still choose to use the program occasionally just to build speed or work on accuracy. We don't have the kids version, but based on our experience, I'd recommend it over the others.
Jugglin'5
My kids enjoy the Timon & Pumbaa (Disney) typing program. It has increased their speed considerably.
Stacia
Here's a free one that my kids have been enjoying: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/ :001_smile: A few other free, online sites are listed here: http://www.surfnetkids.com/typing_tutors.htm
Unicorn.
We have typing instructor (not deluxe) and Type Through Time. My dc hate both of them. A friend said her dc really like Jumpstart Typing. Since my dc loved Jumpstart cd's when they were younger, I think I am going to try and find this. Good luck! lynn
Typing instructor Deluxe was recommended here on the boards and it was just what we needed. They learn to type but build up "power" to play games using the keys they learned.
Bess
We use "Ten Thumbs" here, and it is very much liked and successful!

Kathy in MD
Keyboarding Skills by Dana King Hanbury (? author exact name) from EPS. It's a book, not a computer program but there is no times drill that gets your dc stuck when they hit a snag. Your dc progress every day. Everyday has built in review. It teaches the keyboard in alphabtical order, making it easier to remember and works surprizingly well. There is no stress to the program!!!!!!! Later for games and practice, Typing Deluxe has some games my ds liked. Remember that with ALL typing programs, you should sit next to your child to teach proper wrist and hand positioning. No CD program can do that. signed - dd of former typing teacher.
Once
Here's a free one that my kids have been enjoying:http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/ :001_smile: I agree with Stacia. My kids really liked this one and they learned something too! Not a bad deal for free.
Desert Rat
I picked Spongebob. Huck is a bit younger (3rd) but seems to really like it.
Aggie
It has great lessons and some games. It's easy for even a 6yo to navigate, but challenging enough for a 12-13yo.
Pamela H in Texas
Though we have had Typing INstructor (not "for kids") and did the ABC method (my mom, an OT, uses), what my kids REALLY liked was Ten Thumbs Typing. Just another option.
