momee
Sorry, not too descriptive in my title. I don't want a pancake flipper type spatula but a cake batter type...I also would love for it to withstand pan heat so I can scrape frond from the bottom of my pans. I have a Pampered Chef one but it is too small and doesn't seem to endure the heat well. The ends are starting to get damaged. I'm looking for a big fat one, nice handle and withstands use over time. Parrothead
Try a silicone one. They are supposed to stand up to heat.
Lara in Colo
I have several silicone ones--- a more expensive one will be better quality.
Carolyn in Ohio
These come in different sizes - I have a couple of them http://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-Commercial-Products-2-Inch-Scraper/dp/B0042YHN6E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376491283&sr=8-1&keywords=rubbermaid+heat+resistant+spatula Carolyn
Seasider
My Williams-Sonoma silicon spatula has held up for fifteen years.
bluemongoose
http://www.amazon.com/Chefn-Switchit-Spreader-Silicone-Spatula/dp/B00284CE64/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376493758&sr=8-1&keywords=chef+n+spatula This is the best I have found. One word of caution though. It will not melt, but every once in a while the center core will get way hot if I have left it in a very hot pan for too long and you can burn yourself. It doesnt happen if you are simply stirring in a hot pan, only if left there for a long time.
freerange
I don't know if the Ikeas over there stock them, but I got several different sizes of silicon spatula from them, and they were very reasonably priced.
LostSurprise
They should be labeled for how many degrees of heat they can stand. Look for something over 300F (mine are 400F I think). For a large, sturdy one, that may be more expensive (say $8-10) than you think. I got most of mine from a kitchen outlet store.
Eagle
Le Creuset makes lovely silicon spatulas. I have had mine for years and they still look new.
zoobie
I use a wooden spatula for that.
FloridaLisa
One of my favorite all-time spatulas: a paint scraper. It looks like this, but definitely cost much less. In fact, I think the blade is a bit heavier duty than this one. http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1272905&cp=23485196.2625576 Lisa

ScoutTN
I love the Williams-Sonoma ones. Medium sized with a round, wooden handle. nice and long. My PC one has a handle that is way too short.
