WishboneDawn
He was a fantastic critic, a wonderful writer, and an extremely intelligent man with one of the sharpest minds in show biz. He also had a wickedly dry sense of humour and understood sarcasm in a way very few people do these days. I am really, really going to miss him. Cinder
 Dh and I used to love watching Siskel and Ebert, you know, back in the day.
nmoira
Shoot. I was just reading that he was going to cut back on his work, but I didn't realize he was so fragile. He will be missed.

Catwoman
:crying: Apparently, just yesterday was his 46th anniversary of writing movie reviews. It sounds like he passed away at the treatment center where he was receiving his radiation treatments. I hope he didn't suffer during his last moments, and that he thought he still had some quality time left. He had already suffered so much and he was such a fighter and had such a positive attitude through such horrible illness, so I hope his end was peaceful. His wife must be so sad. I was sad when Gene Siskel died, too. He seemed like another very nice man. :(
redsquirrel
He made twitter worth the while. I loved his ongoing intelligent commentary on life. I read his blog. I learned so much about, well, being human from him. I am really feeling the loss right now.

LeslieAnneLevine
Loved Roger Ebert. For many years, the one thing I looked forward to after watching a movie was reading his take on it. I will miss him.

A peaceful transition. I love that he was full of plans on his blog just a few days before. Such an admirable man.

jhschool
I am really, really sad about this. I want to cry when I think about the fact that he is gone. He was a great man. His views on human nature, on what it is to be alive, on what is fun, on what is good, all showed what a good guy he was, all in reviews of movies. For years one thing that kept me sane was reading his big books of reviews. I would read them for days on end--they were such a comfort to me when the baby was little. I could read two at a time, then could get interrupted, then if I had another moment I could read another one. When you are taking care of a needy baby, it helps so much to have a little complete thing to read, that is so satisfying and so intelligent--and gave me something to think about too during the next cleanup or bouncing the baby or whatever. It seems like a shallow thing, to be comforted by reading reviews, but that's what it was for me. I love movies but there wasn't much movie time for me when DS was tiny, so it was like watching them, sort of. When he first got sick about 8? years ago many people uploaded their photos with "two thumbs up" to cheer him up. I was one of them. I wanted him to get better, so much! And then he did. I am so glad he went peacefully and that he smiled at his wife at the end. That is the way to go. Roger Ebert was a great man.
