meena
I'm upset to see that Google is shutting down Reader. Any suggestions for alternative RSS feed websites to keep my blog reading quick and organized?
TraceyS/FL
UGH.... this is honestly the only thing I use in my google account! I feed it to a newsreader, but it syncs with Google. Hopefully someone has an idea!
Mnemosyne
That's really lame, it's the only reader I've found that I've liked.

dbmamaz
omg NO!!! why?! I use something that feeds off it as an add-on on chrome, and something else that feeds off of it on my ipad. HATE!
nmoira
It's not unexpected after they gutted its social functions last year, but I'm not happy. This is evil.
Wendy Inman
I didn't even realize features had been gutted... i've used it to follow blogs for years. I have no idea what i'm going to use now... CRAZY!!
nmoira
I kinda wonder if they're going to introduce something new at I/O with Reader-type functionality integrated. They have Currents, but I think that's app-only and it's still rough around the edges.
Word Nerd
I'm irritated that they're getting rid of iGoogle too.

nmoira
Oh No! I love Google reader...What happens to all my starred and tagged articles now :-( You won't lose them: http://support.google.com/reader/answer/3028851 Google Reader will be retired on July 1, 2013. If you'd like to download a copy of all your Reader data before then, you can do so through Google Takeout. You'll receive your subscription data in an XML file, and the following information will be downloaded as JSON files: List of people that you follow List of people that follow you Items you have starred Items you have liked Items you have shared Items shared by people you follow Notes you have created Items with comments
Word Nerd
I think this may be just the push I need to stop following RSS feeds. I'm much more selective about blog posts I read than I was when I started using Reader, and quite a few bloggers I used to follow no longer post. I'll probably follow the few I still want to read regularly on Facebook or Twitter.

*Inna*
I just read the news and found another reader very similar to Google Reader called Snarfer. It's free and runs as an independent program as opposed to in-browser one. All my feeds were imported nicely. So far I like it. HTH!
nmoira
OK. Maybe not so bad. It took only seconds to move everything over to Feedly, and it's slick. http://blog.feedly.com/2013/03/14/google-reader/

Free
OK. Maybe not so bad. It took only seconds to move everything over to Feedly, and it's slick. http://blog.feedly.c.../google-reader/ Hey! I just moved to Feedly too. I downloaded the Feedly app on my phone too. I agree it is so much better looking...I like it so far.
ladydusk
Anyone try The Old Reader? I cannot understand closing reader. Frustrating.
TraceyS/FL
Hey! I just moved to Feedly too. I downloaded the Feedly app on my phone too. I agree it is so much better looking...I like it so far. Is this syncing with google reader or did it just copy them? I use Newsrack on my Mac, iPHone and iPad - it syncs with google reader, and so the same things are all marked or stared on all devices. I mainly use my Mac to read feeds these days, so it wouldn't be the end of the world to not have them in sync.... but i have gotten used to it! My worry is if i delete my google account on newsrack I won't have any feeds at all!
Free
Is this syncing with google reader or did it just copy them? Feedly syncs with Google Reader for now. But they promise that on July 1st all the feeds will be seamlessly transferred at the backend into Feedly and we will not need the Google Reader account then. Here is the article discussing this. kiwi3129
I am trying Feed Demon. You have to download and install it, but so far I like it. I was able to easily import my Google Reader subscriptions using Google Takeout that was mentioned in an earlier post.
nmoira
I zipped through my Reader feed this morning using the Feedly Android app, which blows the Reader app out of the water. The Chrome app is passable (though I'm hoping to find a way to fit more information on the screen), so I'm jerking my knee back now because I dont' think I'll be missing Reader at all. Hopefully the transition to the new backend won't have too many hiccoughs.
Murmer
another jumping on the feedly bandwagon...except all my previously tagged and starred items are not there and I have to start tagging over again...but maybe that isn't such a bad thing
WTMCassandra
Well, I was up late monitoring schoolwork (don't ask!), so I tackled the Reader problem. I have used Google Reader FOREVER. Sigghhhhhhh. I tried several readers last night, and wasn't a fan of any of them, really. And I like a web-based one, not a separate application. BUT, this morning, I tried Feedly, and it's not too bad. So here's another vote for Feedly, although I'm still stomping my feet and whining because I don't want to change.

TraceyS/FL
OK, i'm going to have to go find out what Newsrack is going to do - i've been saving recipes by stars in one blog.
Mnemosyne
I've converted to Feedly as well. I like it because it's easy to read my feeds on my phone too. :)

zillymom
I'm going to give Feedly a try, too. Good opportunity to only add feeds I'll read!
nmoira
What I'd meant to pay above is that I was wrong about Pocket. The "saved" items in Feedly are indeed my starred Reader items. :)
TexasRachel
It'll take some getting used to, but Feedly looks like it'll work. Boo on Google though.
