Dianne-TX
Not wanting to debate anything, just wondering if there are alternatives. I know there is American Heritage Girls as an alternative to Girl Scouts.
Arcadia
Not exact alternatives but what I know is Boys Brigade - christian 4H - secular
Momof3littles
Spiral Scouts and Earth Scouts, although they may not be the alternatives you are looking for.
Mrs Mungo
Are you looking for something religious in nature? It will probably depend upon your religion. Royal Rangers has been around a long time, but they are affiliated with the Assemblies of God church. http://royalrangers.com
Dianne-TX
Thank you. I haven't heard of those. I'll have to google tonight. I did not think of 4H at all. Glad I asked.
redsquirrel
4H does not discriminate. If you are looking for an organization that does, then you will have to look elsewhere.

Crimson Wife
Here is an article with a bunch of them. There is also a new brother organization to AHG that is in the early planning stages. Not sure if that is the Faith Based Boys previously mentioned, or if it will have a different name.

I have no clue what it is or what the kids do.

Don't even think that'll be the official name but just a generic to go by for now. Here's a website and basically I think the website is being used to survey what shape the organization will take. http://www.faithbasedboys.org/
tabinfl
Tell me more about 4H? I have no clue what it is or what the kids do. Check out http://www.4-h.org/ I don't know much, but my kids were involved last year. 4-H clubs are usually focused on one particular area of interest -- equestrian, gardening, dog training, robotics, whatever... A club can span multiple age ranges, and members are expected to do projects at their level of ability with older members teaching & helping younger ones. 4-H is also co-ed. It seems to be a much bigger deal in rural areas than elsewhere.
DawnM
Faith Based Boys has come up with some of our scouts as an alternative. There is another group starting this Fall called "On My Honor" in the works that will take the rank your BoyScout is and continue on using the same materials?????? I don't know much about it and we plan to stay in BSA, but that name has come up as well. I think this is the link: http://www.onmyhonor.net Dawn

Jennifer3141
4H does not discriminate. If you are looking for an organization that does, then you will have to look elsewhere. 4H will kick your little butt from their organization the moment they get a whiff of discrimination. That's why every meeting is required to clearly post the non-discrimination clause someplace visible for all parents and children to see,
garddwr
Haven't read the whole thread, but has anyone mentioned Quest Clubs? http://questclubs.net/ Any club or troop you start would be independent, you could make your own rules. We're planning to doing it not as an alternative to scouts (my son will be be starting cub scouts this year) but as a scout-like club with our cousins this summer.
