What Wii game for Christmas?

So we usually get my 8 yos a Wii game for Christmas, but I'm not sure what to get them this year.

Some games they especially have liked:

Wii Party

A Boy and his Blob

Wii Carnival

Mario Kart

Epic Mickey

Some games we have, which they like okay, but clearly aren't favorites:

Wii Sports Resort

Monkeyball

Lego Batman (they have and like the Lego games on their DS, but they never play them on the Wii)

I think they especially like games that they can play together - though together when you're a twin can be solving it together while one person holds the controller. But generally, they love Wii Party because it's got all those minigames and they can play against each other. Ditto Mario Kart. I would LOVE to find something else like Wii Party, but I haven't yet.

I was looking at Guilty Party from Disney, but not really sure. They do really like Clue. Also, at the various Hasbro Family Game Night editions, but those get really mixed reviews and they don't look like they use the Wii's capabilities the way that Wii Party does - more like they just let you play the board games through the Wii. Also, the Toy Story Mania game, since the ride was a favorite at WDW when we were there this fall (it wins the we rode it the most often award at 5 times... plus the three times in a row (we just kept going back through that we rode the Buzz Lightyear one at Magic Kingdom). I'm sure they'd love it, but I'm not sure if it would have staying power. One of the things we love about Wii Party is that the kids just keep playing it and that we all enjoy it.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Super Smash Bros sounds like a good option.

Phineas and Ferb Across the Second Dimension gets my own personal award for biggest waste of money on a video game. They saved up for it and were SO excited. And then they beat it in two days and never played it again. My kids are not avid gamers. They have never beaten anything ever. I mean, ever. But they beat this in just two days. Two days where they had limited screen time too! I can only assume it was absurdly simple. Though they didn't seem disappointed, I was really disappointed on their behalf.

My kids (one is DS 8, two others are older) recommend Kirby's Epic Yarn. Some of the levels are challenging for an 8 year old, but it's engaging and there's the opportunity to beat your own high score and collect different items.

If you want to go bigger, you might go for the WiiFit Plus with the balance board. There are lots of game-type exercises on there (I love the skateboarding one and penguin balance game). It's great for wintertime P.E. It also keeps track of who has the top ten scores for an exercise, so you can sort of compete against each other.

I would get a Super Mario Party game, either 8 or the new 9. We have had a few of them, and we all love to play it together. DS and I really get into it. You can set the level of difficulty for different players, so for those that are younger they won't have it as hard as the rest.

I was going to recommend this. All three of my kids love to play these games together.

Definitely! When DS was 8, we had one of the versions (can't remember which one, but they are all basically the same with different games and characters) and he loved it. We started getting Mario Party back when we had the Game Cube. It's a really fun game!!

Did I miss it? I didn't see Super Mario Bros. mentioned. It is by FAR the most played game at our house. I actually just bought a new one because the other disc was scratched and worn out from playing it so much.

You can play with up to 4 players and you are helping each other solve the levels. DH plays with the kids (the only game he really plays).

It's an expensive game. I guess it's a testament to its popularity that it's essentially the same price as it was when it was released 3 years ago.

Another vote for Super Mario Bros, Mario Party, any of the Lego series or Kirby's Epic Yarn. Super Mario Bros is also played more than anything here. We have SMB Galaxy 2 and honestly I think it kind of sucks as a two player game. P2 is pretty boring. My 9 yo can rarely talk anyone into being his second for that game. Also the music makes me nearly homicidal.

This is the one game that gets pulled out every single time our Wii gets used for actual play and not just Netflix. It was $50.00 when we first bought it but I would think you could find it used or at least cheaper now.

The Raving Rabbids games are fun for groups. Some of them have mini games and such. I would suggest those in addition to the ones already suggested. The mini games are better than story mode.

My kids really like the Super Mario Galaxy games. I agree that it isn't great as a 2 player game, but the kids and I do a lot of watching/turn taking/figuring it out together while playing in one player mode.

Guilty Party is fun (just in case you're still considering it). Malgrave Incident is REALLY good. It's probably the best Wii game we've played. If you like Epic Mickey (which dd does, just hasn't been able to get through, even with the walk-thrus), there's an Epic Mickey 2 coming out. That would make a nice Christmas splurge.

Several people had shown me Skylanders... It looks cool, but the kids thought it was too much merchandise when we saw it in the store and were like, you have to have the toys for it? That's just to get you to buy more stuff! What a rip off! No, I'm not kidding. My poor, commercialism-jaded 8 yos. What have I wrought?

Well, my mom got them the Toy Story Wii game to celebrate our WDW trip. I'm leaning toward Go Vacation or maybe Guilty Party or Mario Party. Many of the others mentioned, we already have - like Kirby's which I got them for a birthday last year and was sure they would love and they never play it.

Thanks for all the ideas, guys. :)
