Can we discuss chiropractors?

Recommended Posts

I've been seeing a chiropractor for a couple of weeks for neck problems. I'm very happy with how things are going so far. I like the doctor; several friends recommended him. He has been really upfront and honest with me. I'm just still a little nervous, I guess, because I've heard so many chiro horror stories.

Can you all tell me your experience with chiros including the reason you are/were going? Thanks.

Links to reputable studies are also welcome. :)

I would not be walking if not for my chiropractor. I have to go all the time for him because of my chronic issues with my muscles. He works on putting my hips, knees and back into place when my muscles pull them out of place. Just try walking on a leg when the hip and knee is out.

My dh sleeps better when he goes to the chiropractor because he then doesn't have back pain.

I am a HUGE fan of my chiropractor. She is wonderful in every way, and has helped me immensely. She has a true gift for pinpointing problem areas; it's really pretty cool. I have used other chiropractors with ok results, but the doctor I have been seeing for the past year is light years ahead of them. Part of the difference is that my current chiropractor uses the activator method (she uses a tool instead of heavy physical manipulation, i.e., "cracking" the joints). I just can't tolerate the traditional chiropractic methods.

Regular chiropractic care over the last year not only helped my back issues, it also helped my PMS and painful period issues (actually, my painful periods went away and also became less heavy and shorter--they were intolerably long and heavy before), as well has helped my sleep quite a bit.

I have been going to my chiropractor for nearly 3 years, and I always say he keeps me walking. :001_smile: Originally I saw him, because my doc was talking surgery for my back since muscle relaxers were not helping me at all. I was in so much pain I was nauseous and could not stand up straight. Within a few weeks the chiro. has my pain to a minimal level, I was not only walking but playing with my kids outside again. I still go, because I have chronic issues, but at least I did not end up having surgery.

My middle daughter sees a chiropractor because her Pediatric Neurologist at PHX Children's Hospital recommends all her headache patients see one. She also recommends they all see an acupuncturist. Different patients respond differently to each of the three types of doctors, but between the three of them, most find significant relief.

We've seen two. One was awful and I disliked the way he did business. If that were my only experience, I'd still be a huge skeptic.

The other is very good. Fixed one family member after a fall on ice and fixed my lower back pain. Seemed to help with migraines somewhat. My primary care physician is seeing one for an injury, so we obviously had no issue getting a referral from our MD.

I've seen good ones and bad, but haven't had any bad experiences since I was a kid. In my experience, chiropractors like stickybeaking, lol.

Regular chiropractic treatments clear up my pms and cramps to virtually nothing and our new chiro (we moved) specialises in paediatrics. She's diagnosed my son with retained reflexes and we're working on getting rid of them.

There are horror stories from all kinds of areas of the medical or pseudo-medical field. My theory is people have higher expectations of non-traditional practitioners whereas with a normal doctor, people will write of more bad experiences as being the luck of the draw.

I was very skeptical of chiropractors and even more skeptical of just randomly picking one out of the phone book.

About a year and a half ago I started seeing one that came highly recommend by many local families I know and she has made a huge difference in my daily migraines and tension headaches. I'm off my preventive meds right now due to pregnancy and she's the only thing that keeps me functioning. The visits are also helpful for the normal aches and pains of my pelvis in the 3rd trimester.

I first saw a chiro during my second pregnancy, when my SI joints kept going out of place, and I could barely walk. My midwife recommended a great chiro who was a client of hers, and the chiro helped tremendously -- after a couple of treatments, I went from limping around, painfully, to being able to dash up the stairs, pain-free. I was a convert!

I started DH going to the same chiro when his back started hurting a lot (probably from hours spent driving). She fixed him up too. Even though we've moved away from her, we still see a different chiro as needed. This one is very fast but does an amazing job whenever DH's back or my neck need a little tweaking. There's just nothing like the way he makes everything pop and loosen up and feel better!
