hsingscrapper
I have no patience for yeast today or being really fussy. Is there such a thing that will give me the taste of a doughnut but way quicker and easier than a yeast dough? Thinking of frying chicken and wanted to make the most of the oil. Also need to think of a side dish. Probably veggies.

xixstar
My mama calls them whomp donuts or poor-folk donuts - but if you have canned biscuits, you can cut those smaller and fry them up. I just never have canned biscuits around now but I loved them as a kid rolled in sugar and cinnamon. You can also do fry bread which isn't a yeast bread either. Mine never turns out so well, so I have no good recipe to recommend.

Simple baking-powder biscuit dough, drop by teaspoons into hot oil. My grandma made these for us lots of times growing up for a treat. Yummy! littlebug42
I make doughnuts similar to these all the time. I don't make yeast doughnuts. We sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar and my kids LOVE them. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/plain-cake-doughnuts/

hsingscrapper
Very true. But I don't have a donut pan. It is on my wishlist, though.
momma2three
Buttermilk donuts don't have yeast and are very easy to make. If you just google for a buttermilk donut recipe I'm sure you'll find some.
stripe
You can make baking powder ones. I find kneading them as if they are bread (instead of treating them gently like a biscuit or drop scone) is the secret.

Katy
You can also make them with premade sugar cookie dough; my stepmom used to do this for us when I was a child.
Scuff
Get a box of Cafe Du Mond beignets. They have them at our grocery store, so I assume they're widely available. Mmmmmm....
