Dorothy Sayers recommendations

I adore Lord Peter Wimsey :)

My favorite one is Murder Must Advertise.

After that, I like Gaudy Night. . .but you might want to read them in order.

Did you want non-fiction?

Oooh, I was introduced to Lord Peter through a series of short stories in a collection called Lord Peter, while I was in high school. So, that might be fun, too!

If you like an intelligent romance mixed up with your period detective fiction, I'd start with Strong Poison, then Have His Carcase, Gaudy Night and then Busman's Honeymoon. That's the arc of the Wimsey/Vane courtship.

Otherwise, Nine Tailors is a good one (darker) and Murder Must Advertise (lighter moments).

I had read Lord Pete Wimsey book about 5 years ago. I can't remember the title but it did not strike hard with me so I hadn't read another one since until last month. I read The Nine Tailors as a pre-read for my oldest and I fell in love with it. What a a beautifully written book! I am looking forward to read the other ones now. :001_smile:
