Mommyof4ks
Colorado is beautiful in the fall I hear. There are many cabins there to rent.
LaxMom
Skyline Dr area, but it'll be a zoo. Cabins aplenty but book now. :iagree: I spent a wonderful trip camping up there one fall. It was fabulous! (And I'm a Maine native, so sort of snobby about foliage.)
Pam L.
I have never been to Colorado, but Yosemite Natoinal Park in California is absolutely beautiful! The "peak" season with the vast number of visitors would be in summer. Best time for a Fall trip would probably be in October. Early November is pretty - but you can't always count on the weather. You can go hiking, rent bicycles, shop, visit museums, camp and more. There are restaurants, a motel, a hotel, a doctor's clinic, bookstores, a post office, small grocery store, souvenir shop, a library and more in the Valley alone. The park is huge. I hope that wherever you decide among the many wonderful suggestions you have received (and will receive), that you and your family have a most wonderful experience! besroma
Asheville, Boone, or Blowing Rock, NC, leaves peaking mid-October. Jacques Cartier provincial park, leaves peaking early October. Mountains of Kentucky.....not sure about peak leaf season. Cabins to rent in all locations....hiking, fishing, golfing. Tons to do in any of the cities in NC...downtown shopping, cultural activities, the arts, Linville Caverns, Linn Cove viaduct, Linville Gorge, Blue Ridge Parkway. Kentucky has Mammoth Cave National Park. Jacques Cartier is near Quebec city.
Mama Geek
It is harder to get there and the fall is much earlier, but Alaska is beautiful in the fall.
Bug's Mom
SE MN/SW WI...the Mississippi River Valley. If you start in my hometown of Red Wing MN and go south along the river you come to Lake City (birthplace of water skiing) and a wide point on the river that is called Lake Pepin (where Laura Ingalls & fam crossed in the winter). Further down is Wabasha which has the National Eagle Center. You then cross the river to WI and head north through several small, wonderful towns including Pepin, Stockholm & Maiden Rock. All throughout the trip you have the river on one side and beautiful bluffs on the other, covered with trees. Some of the bluffs have roads that you can go up to get amazing views of the area. Late-Sept. to mid-Oct. is the height of "Leaf Season" here. Edited August 9, 2012 by BugsMom
