RainbowSprinkles
I would like to get some resources together for a unit study on ships. Does anyone have any recommendations for books and activities? DS7 is interested in how ships are made, how they run, etc.. Also interested in Titanic stuff.

Hunter
This is a topic you could drown in, and never resurface again. Dover has a beautiful historic coloring book for $3.

Sailers, Whalers and fantastic Sea Voyages. there must be a gazillion resources. Good luck!:D :iagree: Love this book! You should check out the book list for Winter Promise Sea & Sky: http://www.winterpromise.com/sea_sky.html I'd definitely include poetry and traditional sailing songs (sea shanties). Hunter
Titanic Coloring Book but...I don't know. It just doesn't seem to be something that should be colored, in my opinion. It feels a little ghoulish to me.
asmall
Winter Promise has a whole year science and history program called Sea and Sky. The program looks great, or you could just get book ideas. AL
buram
Amanda Bennet has a unit study about ships. I have not done this one but we have done some other of her unit studies and really enjoyed them. I can't figure out how to copy the link directly to the ship unit study but the web site is http://www.unitstudy.com.

Dory
Thank you for asking the question! My 5 year old has been begging for this too.
Mom0012
Carry on Mr. Bowditch and Ships, Sailors and the Sea. The first book is a novel and the second is an Usborne-type book (or maybe it is an Usborne book). Lisa
SebastianCat
Homeschool in the Woods' New World Explorers Time Traveler CD is a unit study that incorporates a lot of ship-based activities. My friends who did this a couple years ago actually built a replica of an Explorer-era ship!
skeeterbug
At that age he'd probably still enjoy a book with flaps like Usborne's See Inside Ships. Your library might have it, we love the whole series of See Inside books.
DianeW88
Konos has a unit on ships in their Volume 1. My kids loved doing it!
