Jenny in Florida
The choir with which my son sings was invited to perform at the White House. They didn't apply. Someone from the White House staff contacted them to ask if they would come. After the drama of a couple of weeks ago, we intended to pull our son from the trip. For financial and other reasons, I was not able to accompany him, and we didn't feel it was appropriate for him to go without us. However, one of the choir directors convinced us to reconsider. With all of that said, today was the big day. The group flew to Washington, D.C., yesterday morning and did some sightseeing. This morning, bright and early, they went to the White House for their performance. They sang for two and a half hours while tours went through the building, and they were very well received. They also got a private tour. My son was very excited to tell me that they used a greenroom that had recently hosted Yo Yo Ma. They also gave a series of impromptu mini-concerts for various people who asked. They sang on the plane ride each way, for the staff of the hotel where they stayed, for a soldier returning home . . . There are photos and video clips from some local news coverage on the choir's website: http://www.deanerychoirtour.org/
