DawnM
for the holidays, what do you bake? I have a friend IRL who lives in another state who is also a FB friend. She posts her baking for the holidays and man, she really goes to town with making things! Yesterday she made oreo truffles and some kind of crackers with coating that she home-made. She says she is just getting started. All of her stuff looks so decadent! What do you make and can you post recipes/pics/whatever? I want to be Suzie Homemaker (alone with crafty!) but it seems quite overwhelming to me. Not the baking/cooking part, but all the rest.....so much clean up, etc..... Right now I plan to make fudge, 7 layer bars, haystacks, and maybe pecan bars or lemon bars. READ "PUT IN THE PAN AND BAKE AND CUT!" At this time I do not plan to make those fancy individual things that require a lot of time and energy like buckeyes or cake balls.....but I am open to the possibility if I find the time. MrsMommy
If it's any consolation, the truffles and crackers, if they're similar to the ones I make, are super easy! I bake a lot of stuff, but I rotate from year to year what I make. This year, I'm thinking almond thumbprints, chocolate candy cane crunch cookies, spritz cookies, gingerbread men, maybe mint fudge, and the aforementioned truffles and crackers. Oh, and cake balls, because Pillsbury has peppermint frosting this year! Or maybe they always have, but I've certainly never seen it before. I can't wait to try it out! In the past, I've also made chocolate covered pretzels, peanut butter cookies, sugar cookies, and Mexican wedding cakes. I used to try to do all of them every year, but it just got to be too much! So now we vote--but I get extra votes, since I'm the baker! :)
kathymuggle
Is this what she does with crackers? I do it often - it is so easy and tasty! http://allrecipes.com/recipe/saltine-toffee-cookies/ If you like peppermint, try smashing some candy canes and putting them in your favourite chocolate chip recipe. They also make decent toppings for hot chocolate, doughnuts and cupcakes.
thescrappyhomeschooler
I am in awe. And I wish I were doing a cooking exchange with you! Dawn  I love the Christmas cookie baking! I can't eat them anymore since I've discovered a gluten intolerance, so that makes me sad. I do give them away as gifts, though, and the kids and extended family like them. I go to a cookie exchange every year, and I am blown away by the creative and beautiful things some of these ladies can make! I like to do the frosting and decorating. I sit there with my bowls of frosting, listening to an audiobook and I'm in heaven! Last year, I got through the Hunger Games series on audiobook while raking leaves and decorating Christmas cookies. :D
Guest
One word: Pinterest! I do a lot of baking over here - pies, cakes, cookies. Too many, lol.
Carrie12345
Lynne, your plate looks so much like ours, lol! Cookie wise, we do spritz, Russian tea cakes, jelly diagonals, cream cheese cookies, and then try to rotate in whatever the kids are inspired to add. I also make a LOT of bulla. My kids have really gotten into baking, so I plan to let them handle the bulk this year.

WistfulRidge
We'll be flying out to my parents this year, so mom, my sisters, and I will go all out: Fudge (milk chocolate, rocky road, peanut butter, layered mint) Truffles (chocolate, raspberry, mint) Caramels Cookies (gingerbread, sugar, and who knows what else) Homemade peanut butter cups ... and I'm sure we'll find other things that we'll want to make. LaxMom
I usually make breads, bars, limited cookies. (I had a bad experience with baking hundreds of rolled, cut sugar cookies 20 years ago. I'm still not over it. :001_huh: ) I usually try to make my dad chocolate bourbon balls. If you're after lemon bars, my favorites are the recipe on the Who Wants Seconds blog. (they're even crazy delicious tweaked to be GF)

ScoutTN
I do an average amount of unfussy baking. It's a family thing and my kids are little. We make pumpkin bread for teacher gifts (Sunday school, dance, choir etc.). Lots of medium sized loaves. Very easy and inexpensive. We make traditional cut-out cookies. My grandmother's recipe is fabulous! It has cream cheese in it. Buttercream icing, yummy! We make gingerbread cookies some years. Large ones - easy for kids to decorate. I get photos from magazines for ideas on decorating as I am not an art person! Sometimes I make fudge or hot fudge sauce. I bake chocolate pecan pie for Christmas dinner. Depending on the circumstances we sometimes make a birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas evening/night. Something easy, but from scratch like the recipe on the Hershey's cocoa box. brightside
Has anybody ever frozen the oreo truffles? I would love to make some of these, but I would need to make them about 2 weeks ahead of when I would be giving them as a gift. Would that work?
