SeekingSimplicity
I have done nothing but sit at the computer all day. I was going to get some exercise before supper, but didn't finish the other things I had to do. Now I'm full and can't exercise, but I know that I haven't had enough movement today to be able to get any sleep tonight. I've always heard you shouldn't exercise before bed, but why should you not? Would it be bad if I did?

AlmiraGulch
I don't know the "official" ruling on it, but I've been working out at night a lot lately. As long as you're not trying to go to sleep as soon as you're done I don't see why it hurts anything. And honestly, I've been sleeping really well. Sophia
I used to exercise in the evening with no adverse effects. Why is it bad? I didn't go straight to bed~usually an hour or hour and a half later if that makes a difference.
Rosie_0801
It gets your metabolism going and wakes you up. Rosie
redsquirrel
I think it can for some people. I don't notice a difference. I have to exercise when I get the time and I can't be picky. For example, I am logging off NOW to go exercise, lol.
SeekingSimplicity
That might work out all right then. I was planning to stay up a little later than usual tonight so I could talk to dh. Exercise in a little bit, get a shower, talk to dh. Maybe I'll be settled down and ready for bed by then.
Classical Country Mama
I researched this really well before starting my new fitness regimen, and the online consensus (and we all know everything online is accurate and trustworthy) is no, it doesn't matter. The point is to exercise consistently. Your body doesn't know what time it is. I exercise around 9pm every night (and I mean EVERY night; I workout 7 days a week) and eat dinner around 10pm when I'm done. My new healthy life started in December, and I've already lost 20 pounds on this schedule.
ChristusG
I've heard it can keep you awake....but I say that exercising at night is better than no exercising at all.
*Inna*
Huh? That's the only time of the day I can exercise.
6packofun
I've been running and exercising on and off for several years, always in the late afternoon or early (ish) evening. It doesn't bother me or hinder me from losing weight. I *am* a night owl, though, so there are at least 3 hours between my work out and bedtime and I don't think it affects my sleep. HollyDay
I used to exercise at night with no problem. In fact, it would relax me and help me sleep. Then after a few years, it "revved" me up and I couldn't get to sleep.
SeekingSimplicity
Got some exercise in, and I think I could go to sleep with no problem. So far so good. :) Can't believe how out of shape I've gotten, or how 'crunchy' my knees have gotten.

Mabelen
Do some yoga... it is exercise and you can do a relaxing/calming routine instead of an invigorating routine. I love it when I have time for yoga before bed!
kwickimom
I exercise at 8 or 9 pm every night. I go to bed between 11 and 12, but I have always been a night owl and we dont get up until about 8:00 or 8:30 so I am still getting plenty of sleep. MBM
I run much better at night than in the morning. I don't know why. I also sleep well afterward, so go figure. Do whatever works for you.
AmyinMD
My dh works out at 9:30 most every night. It seems to work fine for him and he doesn't have trouble falling asleep. He used to get up at 5:30 to work out before work and he spent most evenings falling asleep on the couch. I much prefer him going at night because he usually leaves about the time the kids are going to bed.
teacalm
It's bad? Who says? I don't really follow the morning is the best time. whatever or whenever I can fit it in, I do it. I just can't exercise past 9 pm as my husband says it shakes the house. This is when I did jillian michael's dvds faithfully. I slacked off then, burnt out from all that jumping. Xuzi
I mainly workout first thing in the morning, but I loooooooove doing the occasional night workout! I find I actually sleep *better* because my muscles are all nice and warm and I just feel more... cozy, I guess, curling up in bed with warm muscles and nicely worn out from the workout. Doesn't matter if it's Yoga or Jillian Michael's. (although Yoga does make me *more* relaxed because of the focus on breathing and stretching) Any time you can workout is better than not working out at all. :)
TheCoffeeChick
I agree with everyone else. I personally can't work out at night though - I gives me so much energy, I just want to get moving. So, I workout just before lunch each day. Dh on the other hand does his exercise at night because it exhausts him - if he did it during the daytime he'd have to take a nap before he could do anything else. Mabelen
@SeekingSimplicity, I read you managed to fit in some exercise, how did it go at bedtime? Did you have trouble falling asleep at all?
fairfarmhand
I exercise at night usually. I end it by a pilates/yoga workout that totally relaxes me and stretches me out; by the time I shower and blow dry I am definitely ready to go to bed. Did you have trouble falling asleep at all? I had no trouble at all. Dh came in after i had my shower, and I talked to him for a while, then I was ready to go to sleep. Slept like a baby.
