CalicoKat
Why is it so exciting to start the new book but that very last lesson in the old book is such a chore?
WiseOwlKnits
My DD is working on her very last lesson in her math book right now and I was just having the same thoughts. Math is her favorite subject, and yet getting her to finish this one last lesson is like pulling teeth!! :glare:
gardening momma
We did the last lesson in math yesterday, but it was really easy. And no, we're not done early, we're behind. Now we need to start this year's math book. :001_smile:
Tap
I think it is because it always seems like the 'afterthought' topics. The ones that don't really fit in to what you are learning, just the random tidbits left over. You also know that they aren't building up to anything else. It is like doing the dishes after a dinner. Cooking the dinner is fine, but the chore to clean up....not so fun.
mombygrace
My kids always love doing the last page. It is a big deal - worth a special treat :). They decorate the page etc. and we make a lot of fuss ( smiles, hugs etc).
missmoe
I agree with Tap, Tap, Tap. Often times those last lessons are just dumb! I feel free skipping them!
cani e porci
We do every single page. Things get pretty draggy that last quarter to eighth of the book, but the last lesson in any subject is cause for celebration. I made myself a countdown grid for Saxon 65 this morning. 43 days of math left. :tongue_smilie:
Night Elf
Only in MUS. Dd12 has always loved her MUS books and doesn't skip a page. With everything else we've used, I skip all lessons that wouldn't benefit my children in some way. Redundant work is always skipped, so we usually end up skipping lots of lessons at the beginning of math and grammar books.

And he did 2 lessons in the new book.

They decorate the page etc. and we make a lot of fuss ( smiles, hugs etc). We do a run to Wendy's for a small Frosty -- two kids finished books this week so we're doubling up. Great idea about decorating the page, and alot less expensive!
katilac
Our entire OCD household would explode if we left the very last lesson undone, lol. We have no problem ditching a book early on, or halfway through, but leaving ONE lesson undone? That's just wrong! :D
phathui5
I like what mombygrace said. I'm going to have to let my kids decorate our last pages.
Scuff
Mine get 1/ hour of game time when they finish a book, so they liek it.sometimes they'll work ahead a few lessons as they near the end.
bookfiend
I'm trying to reconcile myself to the fact that some books are not going to finish this year and am contemplating just folding them over to next year rather than leave them incomplete. We are probably only going to get through 2/3 of both math and grammar.
Dinsfamily
Skip the last lesson? Are you crazy?!? I like the feeling of being done too much to skip that last page. I'd much rather skip the first 20 lessons of a new book. Too bad my OCD won't allow me to do that either.
Paintedlady
We usually do finish the last lesson but I understand about it not being very exciting--certainly not as exciting as the first lesson.
