Alexandra
What age child would enjoy this book? I had heard that it is violent...? Thanks! Alexandra
EKS
My son read it at age 12 or so and loved it.
Farrar
Depends on the kid, of course, but I would say 10+ with the right age being about 12 or 13 - though these books can be appreciated by teens as well.
amy g.
I read it out loud when my oldest three children were 12, 10 and 8. I cleaned up some of the worst language. After that, my dad bought them ALL of the Ender audio books, which they loved.
Mommyfaithe
I'd say 12/13. Just because a kid CAN read a book and seem to enjoy it, doesn't mean he can actually relate to it. I love Orson Scott Card because of how well he developes his characters and the underlying ethical questions he poses. I think a lot of that can go over a younger kids head... Chris in VA
Dd read it when she was just barely 10. Wish we had waited, as there are some pretty graphic images. I'd say 12 or 13 on up to young adult. Edited November 22, 2010 by Chris in VA
Terabith
I'd say ten. 12 or so would be better, but honestly, I wouldn't forbid a child of any age from reading it. I would just want to discuss it a lot. I'm fairly relaxed about books, and Ender's Game is a truly awesome book. Yes, it has some violence and such, and depending on the child, I would discourage them from reading it, but it is such a great book for discussion. There is violence, but there is context. It isn't gratuitous, and there is a strong morality inherent in the book. I think OSC is one of the best writers out there.
Unicorn.
I've read it, so has my ds. He read it about 2yrs. ago (12). He said your ds would be fine w/ it. I thought it was very sad, but the violence wasn't that bad imho.

Faithe :iagree::iagree: As a book to read and enjoy, 10. To really get into it and tear it apart? 14-15.
Mrs.Gregg
I first read it at age 15. My younger brother was around 12/13. Hope that helps. :001_smile:
