Halcyon
I have been eyeing Ellen McHenry's mapping curriculum, but I wonder if my 3rd grader isn't too young for it. Would love opinions on others.

mcconnellboys
I haven't seen it, but like all her other work! I used the Beautiful Feet guides and maps for elementary geography....
Guest TheBugsMom
Are you looking for US geography, World, or geography in general? I love this for US Geography for the 3-4th grader http://www.theeducationcenter.com/tec/afc/books/basic/search.do;jsessionid=88F15E57E422EEC58B258E4F3568ED3E

Guest TheBugsMom
Have you looked at the Trail Guide to World History? I used the US history one and I did not notice any religious/Biblical tone. http://www.geomatters.com/products/details.asp?ID=6 When I used the US version for one of my children, we just used the map exercises not the writing assignments. This is another one I have looked and and was impressed with, but I have only looked at it not used it yet. http://www.geomatters.com/products/details.asp?ID=76 As with the other, I did not find Biblical content. Note: Just because I did not notice any Biblical content does not mean it isn't there, it is just that I am desensitized to it since most of what I use contains it, if this makes sense. mcconnellboys
Oh, in that case, the BF studies are all U.S. except Seabird (and I don't think it really makes a good geo study). I used Trip Around the World and Another Trip Around the World, along with loads of living books at that age.
Halcyon
Anyone else? I am looking for a curriculum that will basically help them memorize the globe; perhaps just using downloaded maps is sufficient.
tammyw
Not a curriculum, but have you seen the Oregon's Talking Globe before? They have it at Costco right now for a fraction of the normal price - Around $60 I think. It's fantastic. My kids have had this for years. My 4.5 year old has learned so much geography from this, it's amazing! That's been an outstanding purchase for us!
persephone43
I personally liked Evan-Moor geography books for that age. We did the basic book, then Europe, Asia and US with my dd years ago. Those combined with SOTW maps in the AG and lots of referencing globes, maps...I feel that she got a really good understanding of geography. I plan to do the same with my son. We are using a mapping book, i forget which one LOL..but I feel it's too workbooky and not about memory work at all, which is what i want to focus on. Terabith
I really like the combination of Daily Geography (for map skills) and http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/Geography.htm I cant' say enough good things about these games. Anna knows all the countries, rivers, oceans, regions of Europe, South America, and the United States, and much of Africa.
Verity
Anyone else? I am looking for a curriculum that will basically help them memorize the globe; perhaps just using downloaded maps is sufficient. I am using the Geography Songs from Sonlight with my 3rd grader and I'm amazed at how he is learning the songs. I've never thought of him as musical but he is really doing great with memorizing things from music. I coordinate the area of the globe with the parts of history we are studying for the week. So far, so good.
