History: SOTW 2 w/AG and lots of living books

Other: Daily Geography workbook, Song School Latin, Primarily Logic, Composer Study, Handwriting, and Reading list.

*all of the above is subject to change at anytime. We cannot be held accountable for any last minute changes.:D

Daily subjects:

Math: Practical Arithmetics (similar to Ray's) supplemented with Miquon and/or an abacus program (al-Abacus or Mathabacus, haven't decided)

LA: CW Primer, maybe Webster's Spelling if I think she needs more spelling instruction, DD Read-alouds, maybe some HOP 2nd if she needs more phonics

Latin: Lively Latin (plan on taking it slow)

Weekly block subjects:

History: The History of US for U.S. history, supplemented with some fun stuff like Wee Sing America (OR, a biography-focused history approach, I haven't decided)

Geography: Evan-Moor Beginning Geography, supplemented with geography songs and an internet-linked atlas

Science: R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey: Earth and Space, with probably her dad and a telescope supplementing

Heathen Studies: probably focus on a virtue study

Classical Studies: Bible stories (Ergermeier's, or whatever the in-laws provide for free that looks okay to me)

English Studies: American folk tales

We started using it earlier this year. I have no complaints. After the first few lessons we haven't done the part that requires me to write every word on a white board, she has been able to see the similarities without that, which is nice. We just do a spelling lesson every day. It usually takes less than 10 minutes and her spelling is improving

I'm happy with Sequential Spelling too... we were using AAS this fall, but dd went through the first level very quickly, but it didn't seem to be helping her day-to-day spelling much. But when we were doing spelling it was great! The cost was too high to buy another level right away.

We also did a little Spelling Workout, but that was very, very basic. Dd liked it better because of the activities, but I don't think she was learning much.

We're only in our 3rd week using Sequential Spelling, but it's going great. We've also dropped the part where I write every word on the white board b/c dd doesn't need that -- I just write the ones that she misspells. And she's learning much more useful words... "could" "should" and "would" are all in early lessons, which I really appreciate. The only thing I might change about it is that 25 words in a sitting might be a little much for dd. Other than that it's great. It's going to last us longer than 3 months, and dd is actually learning to spell. :)

Language Arts: Primary Language Lessons, Elson Readers, and Copywork

Maybe: English From the Roots Up for vocab.

Math: McRuffy Second Grade Color Math

Science: A year of in-depth nature studies

History: The Middle Ages, using this book list

Art, Music, etc.: We'll study art through the historical periods we cover. For hands-on art, we may do Sketch Tuesdays or something similar connected to our art appreciation. For music appreciation, we'll keep using Classics for Kids Composer of the Month. We may start Latin too, with Latin for Children, Lively Latin, or ???

Already a couple of changes in place! For math, we're going to drop the workbook/curriculum approach and go with THIS. Here's a link to science resources we plan to use also, and a way in which we may approach nature studies.

Still on the hunt for just the right Latin program - something I can use with both a 2nd grader and 4th grader at the same time, and that doesn't cost too much, alhough without the math texts, I'll have a little more money to play around with!
