itouch?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about getting an itouch for my 16yo for Christmas. She has a 2gb ipod nano that we got her several years ago. My 14yo has an identical 2gb ipod nano. My 11yo just has a shuffle.

What I think I'd like to do it get the itouch for my 16yo and have her pass her nano down to the 11yo.

Is an itouch worth it? My dd has completely filled her ipod. She wants to be able to watch videos on her ipod (hers doesn't have that capability). I know she'd love to have internet access on it.

Is there a fee for accessing the internet on the itouch? We have a wireless router in the house.

I love my iPod Touch! I got it because you don't need a "plan" to access the internet. All you need is your wireless router in your home or a wifi hot spot when you're out. There are tons of free educational and fun apps your daughter will enjoy!

It's definitely worth it now that Apple has lowered their prices, too :D.

I got one for my birthday this year. It is much smarter than I am however:confused: I had to call tech support to try and figure out how to turn it off! Seriously, I have not been able to figure out much beyond playing music. I would love a tutorial.

Apple puts all their tutorials online. There's also a manual in the list of links that appear when you open Safari. I just got one for my bday recently and love it!

Definitely worth it! I have the iPhone (pretty much like the iTouch minus the phone and camera) and my kids are always asking to use it. I could not live without my iPhone LOL! I got the kids an iTouch for Christmas....I'll put all their little TV shows, Jesus songs, and games on it. Plus, they'll love looking at photos of our Disney trips and stuff like that.

Just make sure you get one that's large enough. I would not get the 8 GB if she plans on putting movies and videos on it. You can check out refurbished 16 GB ones at the Apple website (which is what I did, they are no longer in production). Or you can purchase the 32 GB or 64 GB one at a store.

that is my biggest concern, also - what about inappropriate material and also, what about constant e-mailing, etc when out with an ipod?

If you can't trust your child to have unlimited internet access, don't buy one. My ds bought himself an Ipod Touch last Christmas and he can log on anywhere there is an unsecured internet connection. He has an app that allows him to text with that connection as well.

I trust him, but I also am realistic - the likelihood is that he might access inappropriate content at some point in time. He's 16, though, and in 2 years he will be on his own with no restrictions by me. My philosophy is freedom with support. If nothing else, he knows that the fastest way to get a computer virus is by looking for porn!

I love, love, love my iTouch! I have a 32 gb with all my music on it. I do not watch movies other than you tube though. You do not have to pay for a internet connection as long as there is free wifi.

As for battery life, be sure to charge it fully and let it drain fully. I did this with my Macbook and the battery lasted three years. The Genius Bar said they usually don't last that long :-)
