Hannah
I usually read seperately to my 9yo and 5yo daughters, but would like to find something they can both enjoy. What do you recommend for a fun holiday read-aloud?

Free Indeed
We really like the Jotham's Journey series if you are talking about the Christmas time holiday. It is a Christian series though.
Hoggirl
Hi Hannah,Which holiday? Have you all read the Chronicles of Narnia? ETA: I did NOT mean to imply that the OP used the "wrong" word. We lived in the UK for a couple of years and it took me awhile to learn that a "holiday" was what we Americans would call a "vacation." Chris in VA
I think she means vacation :lol: Oh, I get it! DUH! Sorry, Hannah. My dd9 is enjoying The Mysterious Benedict Society and its sequel of a similar name (which I've forgotten).
abbeyej
The Railway Children (Nesbit) is a wonderful read-aloud. Or how 'bout The Secret Garden? Swallows and Amazons?
Carol in Cal.
you want something that is deep enough but accessible enough. Tough challenge! I would go with the oldies. "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" "Half Magic" "Knight's Castle" "Ben and Me" "Heidi" "The Secret Garden" and "A Little Princess" ... and with engaging, funny books even if their level seems a little low: The Amelia Bedelia books The Frog and Toad books--these may be too easy "Alice in Wonderland" "The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins" "The Sneetches"
