mommylawyer
You're a smart bunch, so I thought I would pose this question to you: Is it okay to keep butter on the counter? (Pasteurized, in a sealed container.) I live in Georgia where summers are relatively hot and sticky - if that helps your answer... All responses, including any links to research you may have done, would be appreciated. Thanks!
TraceyS/FL
I've always left butter out.... my whole life...... It melts in my kitchen in the summer here though! LOL!!
~Tara~
Yep. We keep ours out in a little tupperware-like deal. If it gets too warm in the house I'll refrigerate, to avoid melted butter all over the counter :p
Michelle in MO
Yes, I'd keep it out, too. Since I hail from dairy country (Minnesota), butter doesn't stay around too long in a butter dish in our house.
HRAAB
I usually always keep my butter on the counter. Sometimes during the hottest days of summer it will get a little squishy, and if I think about it, I'll put in the fridge. Usually it doesn't last that long. kewb
I keep it on the counter. In the summer I will put it in the fridge because it is too melty as opposed to spreadable.
JudoMom
Yep. I leave mine out. My Mom has one of these Butter Bells, but I just keep mine on the counter in a container with saran wrap over the top.
Tracy in Ky
I leave mine out--raw, unpasteurized butter.
mcconnellboys
I've been leaving ours out lately. It gets used so fast that I don't think it would go bad. I feel sure you'd know if it did, as I believe it would smell rancid. I think you should keep it covered, but out should be fine....
mommaduck
Yep, the only reason I don't is because hubby is a bit OCD about anything dairy.
abbeyej
Yep, totally fine. Unsalted could theoretically go bad (it wouldn't hurt you, just taste yucky) if left for a really long time -- but if it's salted and/or it's eaten in a few days, there's nothing to worry about at all. westcoastmom
I used to keep mine on the counter in a butter bell. It was fine as long as it didn't get too hot and partially melt the butter.
tricia
Us too, always kept butter out. Even my parents while I was growing up, and my dh parents. We all seem to be fine.:001_smile:
Lakeside
We leave ours out almost all the time. Sometimes during the summer I'll refrigerate it only because I don't like pouring butter onto things!
Storm Bay
Sure, dh does, and we did when I was growing up. If it's hot enough to melt, though, I put it in the fridge to keep the mess down.
Catwoman
I leave it out, too. I am completely paranoid about refrigerating things, but I don't worry about the butter. Cat
