  1. I need to add in PE for my 5th grade dd {nearly 10yo}. She is very anti-exercise, and any walking / running / etc either finds her tired in just a few minutes or crying because either she has a side stitch or leg cramp. I've brought the side stitch / leg cramp issue up to her Doctor and was brushed off as "well she isn't active enough since she's not doing PE in school". So we need to at least attempt PE to see if that improves things or if there is something actually going on. My mom gut says there probably is something going on as it seems to be worsening as she grows. She already is dealing with suspected ASD and SPD, so her sensation of pain might just be soreness - it's hard to tell. WWYD for a PE program for this age? She isn't interested in any sports or organized type things. I'm tempted to let her go with Pokemon Go when I get my new phone that will run it - would that provide enough activity?
  2. Wouldn't tie in with your lessons, but the first thing that came to mind when I read your post was kiwicrate / tinker crate / doodle crate.
  3. Anyone have the Fitbit Flex? I'm looking at that one as its in my price range
  4. I am trying to eat healthier and lose weight. I've got the eating part managed with MyFitnessPal and it is working great for me. But I'm terrible at figuring out how much activity I've done, calories from it, etc. I would like to get some type of wearable fitness device like a fitbit or jawbone or similar. I would like it to track sleep as well, as I have sleep issues that I think may be affecting my weight loss. Budget is pretty small but I'm okay waiting for a good sale or buying used. IF you have one and like it - please tell me!
  5. I use Ynab. Been using it for nearly a year and I really like it. They do a 30 day trial I think
  6. Following - I need ideas too. DD is 10, but I also have an nearly 13 and nearly 12 yo to buy for. My budget is tight too. Right now I'm planning on one big ticket item, but I'll be saving up Swagbucks gift cards to pay for it I think. I'll have to see what I can do.
  7. We've had luck with Justice ones and Walmart ones. DD9 has sensory issues too, but needs coverage to avoid pokey issues.
  8. Girl Scout folks - a wwyd question for y'all. DD is nearly 10 & going into 5th, but has ASD and some other issues. Up until now she's done scouting here and there as an at home thing - we just registered as a lone scout and then pretty much did our own thing and ignored the council. Once in a while we go to a scouting related event if I can find one that works for us. I held her in brownies an extra year to allow her to mature since she is young for grade. So this fall she would be moving up to Juniors. We were talking with another scout mom here, who also is coordinating troops in our area. She offered to find a troop for my dd. I'm not crazy on this idea at all - I am not sure I an handle another regular commitment / being roped into being a scout mom or leader since I have the training / etc. I would have to attend all events anyways on account of her ASD and food allergies. But my dd piped up and said she would like to try a troop this year. I don't see it going well - dd has come out of her shell a little but acts very young for her age and honestly I don't see her fitting into the dynamic of most girls her age - she just is in a different place mentally than most 10yo girls IMO. I don't want her to get hurt, KWIM? She is a kid who gets hurt easily. I'm also concerned about the extra costs of troop events - I don't have extra funds to put towards it, and don't feel it would be fair to be always asking for a scholarship to cover. DD probably will NOT sell cookies due to allergy concerns {most booths here do samples & she is allergic to half the GS cookies} fwiw. WWYD? Troop or stay lone scout? Something in between? Ideas?
  9. Monday {August 1st} here for a soft start. Though we may actually start Tuesday as I have quite a bit of errands to run Monday. Our PS starts August 22nd - we'll be spending that day on a field trip at the zoo, in theory
  10. Just to clairify - I'm not the one going through it. It's my neighbor. But I was asking also What IF he were to lie and use my address, which is one number different from his moms. I'll recommend she speaks to a lawyer. I doubt she will though - they have been through this before with him.
  11. I agree. You are not a failure. I don't know of any kids other than geniuses who would perform well on an unannounced placement test. My daughter is extremely bright, but mention the work test and it's like her brain just reverts back to preschool.
  12. Texas This was an arrest Warrant for Parole violation. The Parole officer had already been by a couple of weeks ago looking for him and just to confirm he wasn't living there.
  13. Please don't quote as I may remove since I'm asking for a neighbor. Can an officer legally do this? Neighbor A has a son named B who is in his early 40's. B used to live with her but she kicked him out a while back. He is on parole for either assault or minor possession {possibly both}. She HAD told & notified in writing his parole officer several weeks ago that he no longer lived there and she did not know his whereabouts. He violated parole, and officers came looking for him this morning on a parole violation warrant. The warrant was for HIM, NOT the home and did NOT list her address. She was in a back room of the house and came out to her kitchen to find an officer standing in it. They had NOT rang the door bell, announced entry or anything per the adult granddaughter who's room is off the entry and had her door open but back turned. The front door was unlocked but SHUT as the grandkids had already come over to my house to play with my daughter. She was shocked to find an officer in her kitchen of course, and the officer spooked a bit as well and was very forceful with her as to the whereabouts of her son. The officer also insisted on searching the entire house AND contents, even the obviously teen girl rooms of her granddaughters. They even dumped out all the dresser drawers / etc looking for "B's things". They of course didn't find anything. I am very concerned because he has lived in several homes on our block, and also has a history of giving out neighbor's addresses as his own {most of our street is rentals with a high turnover rate}. i could easily see it having been MY home they were entering! My questions are: Is it legal for an officer to enter without announcing in a matter such as this? I thought they always had to announce entry unless it was potentially harmful Is it legal for them to search the home even after being told he did not reside there? If he were to give out a neighbor's address, does said neighbor have a right to refuse entry to the police since they have the wrong address?
  14. Well for me it would hinge on WHEN the participant became unconscious. If the two guys and the girl are merrily going along drinking their teA, and the prior drinks overwhelm one of the group, I would assume that since consent was given prior to that person being overwhelmed it still applies. Now if they started drinking teA AFTER a member of the group became overwhelmed, then that would be forced teA. But honestly it is a he said she said situation and very hard to confirm consent.
  15. Check with the University's Res Life before doing anything. Ours didn't allow curtains OR beds being lofted. We could use risers no higher than 6" to add extra storage under the bed, but that was it. Is your daughter someone who NEEDS her privacy? Or is she just concerned about studying / etc with a chatty roommate? If she is someone who really needs her alone time to decompress / calm, I would recommend getting a single room. It costs more, but is WELL worth it IMO. If she is just concerned about studying - well that's what the library is for :)
  16. Our bills are very low, but I work hard to keep them that way. I'm in the same city as Kinsa used to be :) Electric / Gas - $75-$150. Higher in winter as we use space heaters. Summer I've actually seen a $60 bill, but normally it is about $75. We don't have a/c - I'm sure when I finally manage to get a windor unit it will go up a bunch in summer. Water/Trash - $30-40. Hoping this goes down as I fixed one of the bigger leaks Internet - $10 I prepay through a program that is set up for low cost / low income Bus Fare - $20 ish a month normally. Depends on how much we end up going. Also lately we've been carpooling some places with the neighbor which helps. Cell Phone - $0. Freedompop phone cost me $25 a year ago, and I get 500 mb data, 300 minutes ad 200 texts free every month. I use WIFI everywhere and skype so I never use it all.
  17. Let's see..... Every pregnant women gets morning sickness - there is nothing wrong {there was - I suffered from the extreme version HG} Any nausea will disappear as soon as you hit your second trimester {it didn't - I was on meds until the end} Childbirth is the most painful thing ever {it wasn't - heck I've had cramps that were worse!} There is no way your child could be having an allergic reaction to something you ate while breastfeeding {she was} Adults don't get depression - that is only for emo teens You are perfectly healthy {I wasn't} College is mandatory and the best way to success {not for me it wasn't - I just ended up with a ton of loans} Oh and my personal favorite: You'll find a husband in college {I didn't}
  18. Try Simply Whispers earrings. They are the only truly hypoallergic earrings I have found - a lot of the ones sold in regular stores have nickel in the backs still and would cause issues for me.
  19. Thank you for the warning! I have an elderly gas stove and it does run hot. It doesn't have anything electric though - there isn't even a plug in that spot for it {which is why we had to get a new to us stove suddenly after moving in}. I guess I would have to shut off the gas if it happened - better figure out how to do that! I always double check that it has cooled before leaving that part of the house though.
  20. Newly 9. DD is well coached in safety, and we have great neighbors that she can go to in an emergency. Plus we both have skype, so she is in frequent contact with me and can show me anything that comes up. She knows to not answer the door unless it is a neighbor {and to check without being seen}, and that if anyone else comes to the door she is to hide in one of several places until they have left. Anything else she is to go out the back door or a back window, and head to the neighbors thru the alley. We have great neighbors and normally one or more of them are home. She regularly stays home alone for a couple hours by her choice while I go grocery shopping a couple of miles away. I can get home in about 30-45 minutes on city bus in an emergency, and I'm comfortable with that. It gives us both a break from one another - she generally spends her time on blogs or watching netflix. I did actually leave her home alone at 7, but it was just for a 45 minute round trip run to the store for more meds while she was sick. I wasn't going to drag a sick child out in cold wet weather on a bus for meds. She slept the entire time I was gone.
  21. For me the big symptoms are my immune system goes to crud and my mental state plummets. I have thyroid issues, as well as possibly celiac {haven't tested yet, but I don't do wheat well}. I take 5000 iui daily, and bolus it up to 10,000 iui on a regular basis depending on how I feel. When I start to feel the downness sinking in, it goes up. My levels were 8 when first diagnosed, and 10,000 iui daily for 3 months only brought it up to 37.
  22. :hug I'm in the same boat. 5th grade 2e dd, public school isn't an option for both academic and medical reasons. Can't put her in k12 because she wasn't in public last year. I made this year a cop-out year - all workbooks and just get it done.
  23. Honestly - very disjointed. This year I'm giving up sticking to the local PS schedule - it just doesn't work for us. I don't even count on being able to school 5 days a week anymore - again it often doesn't work. This year I made my schedule free of days of the week / calendars / etc. It's a spiral notebook with "day 1, day 2, etc" on each page. I'll check off the page when we complete it, and we'll school until our subjects are done and we're past day 180.
  24. Yep :) There isn't really much difference between plus size and maternity stuff. My youngest is nearly 10 and about 1/4 of my tops are maternity - they fit my short torso and chunky tummy better than standard plus size. My next pregnancy I'm taking a page out of my mom's book. Her maternity tops were simple big rectangles with short loose sleeves added. The top had a casing and drawstring, which then gathered the top into something similar to a peasant blouse. SOO comfy, cool {if made from cotton blend, but even the poly ones aren't bad} and cheaply made. They also doubled as nursing blouses - the extra fabric as more than enough to drape to cover everything but baby while nursing.
