anyone else feeling very triggered by the news lately?
scoutingmom replied to ktgrok's topic in The Chat Board
I don't watch the news and am happier for it. Anything really important I do end up finding out about. I don't even know the story being discussed in this thread, and I don't think I'll look it up based on the topic. Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk -

I did Rightstart version 1. My son did great with B to level D. He seemed to do fine with level E, but has struggled with transition to another program and the level E topics are things he is struggling with. My daughter did ok with levels B-D, but struggled with level E.... we did the first half twice. My next daughter did great from level A- first half of D which is when we switched. My youngest did level A-B. At the end, I did 2 years of teaching 4 kids all at different levels... (and a couple of years of 3 kids, etc). I love RightStart, but couldn't spend that much of my time on math, especially as my oldest struggled with programs after RightStart and my 2nd oldest struggling. We spent a few months trying Saxon. Now my 3 girls are using CLE. I am using a program for struggling students with my oldest.... which I never expected as he always had grest marks with RightStart. I don't know what I'm going to use with hi next. Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk

My family argues about the spider that goes up the water spout. My sister and I agree it is Itsy Bitsy, but my mom says it is Inky Dinky. Trying to remember, but I think my brother says Eency Weency...... You would think we all would have learned the same version..... Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk

Car Portable Jump Starter Recommendations
scoutingmom replied to emzhengjiu's topic in The Chat Board
We have one and it has been great. It is a bit larger, has an air compressor as well, and has a usb charging port and 12 V power access as well. We used it for a while when our car had to be boosted almost every day. (Yes, we eventually got a new battery... but it had to wait). We could jumpstart the car several times without charging the charger (we never had it not work). That said, I don't have it in front of me, but we bought it at Canadian Tire, and I'm 95% sure it is the store brand.... Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk -
I learned it as seven as well. And never cared if it made sense or not. Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk

Do you have the audiobook? Get the alternative tests that are available and ask the co-op teacher to give him that one during the tests? Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk -
Freaking out about a scout trip JAWM *Update* They lived :)
scoutingmom replied to Amber in SJ's topic in The Chat Board
About 20 years ago (man am I old), the Venturers (scouts aged 14-17) for my group were flying in small planes to start a canoe trip for their entrance to the Amory Award - an adventuring award.) Half of the group ended up having a survival adventure instead of a canoing one; one of the planes crashed. I think it was 4 days before they were rescued. No serious injuries. Reading and Spelling used in Public Schools K - 3
scoutingmom replied to ElizabethB's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I am not sure. I know they are doing sight words in K because a friend of my step-daughter had s child in K struggling with it. They were wondering if I had anything to help over summer before grade 1. I asked if they wanted something to help them learn how to read, or something to help memorize the sight words. They just wanted help on memorizing the sight words. [emoji52] Sent from my SM-G903W using Tapatalk -

Just thought I would update people a bit. I kept doing research, and found (in a round-about-way) a school textbook (and all the teacher resources) available from our Teacher's Library (which we can use as homeschoolers). The course is for struggling students in grade 7 or 8 to help them with the areas that they struggle in - up to 3 grade levels lower, and there are similar courses for younger grades that could be used as a resource if an even more fundamental skill is missing. For each small unit, (withing the various math strands) there is a diagnostic test. Based on the results, it then has different 'pathways' through the lessons to help them with the skills they are struggling with. So there might be up to 5 lessons in the unit, or only 1 (or none, If they get it all right). The course is supposedly designed to be able to be used for tutors, or within a regular class, or in a special course. I am trying out a combination of this course and Khan Academy. He will do the diagnostic test for each little unit. Then we will go through the pathway lessons that make sense... this requires some teaching from me. And I am assigning similar assignments in Khan Academy, for extra practice, and for review (because I believe that Khan Academy reviews things in the Master Challenges...) I hope this works to bring him to a good grade 8 level at least. I can work out a plan after that for next year when he is in grade 10. I know one of the schools around here has a Math Foundations course in grade 9.... I'm tempted to phone the school to find out what textbook they use... as an option if he is still struggling or this course doesn't work out....
