  1. Teachin'Mine started this a while back, and it ended up on the Gen Ed board when we got the new system. I thought this board would be a better place for it, so let's go again! Here's what I posted yesterday on the Gen Ed board: I've missed this thread! Ready for a resurrection? No offense intended! JAWM Lg Family Renting Hurdles I don't know of a place that rents hurdles to any size family. Bikes, yes. Hurdles, iffy.
  2. I've only recently returned to the forums after a long absence, but I haven't yet seen a thread for those funny homeschool stories that we can't really share IRL for various reasons. Therefore, I thought I'd start one. Dd11 struggles with occasional insomnia. It's not chronic, but it generally freaks her out when she can't sleep. We have various standard methods of coping with it, including reading a really boring book until she can't stay awake anymore. Well, last night was a bad one for her and she knocked on our door about 1 1/2 hours after she'd gone to bed, complaining about h
  3. ok, off topic completely, totally need to get this off my chest... Starting at 6:30 last night right when we got to the movie theater to see Iron Man.... Apparently Mom needed someone to take her to the Dr today at 2:30, (she gets confused since her heart attack in February) 43 texts between my younger sister and I and one phone call 14 texts ,7 phone calls and 6 emails between my twin and I 6 phone calls between twin and Mom 9 phone calls my dh had to make to cover stuff at work so he could go in my stead because today is the ONE day I couldn't do it 3 phone calls and 7 emails with Mom
  4. My husband came across this last night and sent me the link. It's good for a chuckle; unfortunately, I don't know the original author. Dog Diary vs. Cat Diary Regards, Kareni
  5. I found myself laughing today at all kinds of crazy. I had a whole day to myself to watch Netflix and I had the best time.
  6. I usually hate receiving forwarded e-mails, but I got this from my aunt yesterday and thought it was absolutely hysterical. I thought you guys might enjoy it too. :D ALERTS TO THREATS IN 2011 EUROPE BY JOHN CLEESE The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Libya and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categor
  7. A funny quote from a novel my daughter just bought that completely explains why we go through so much trouble to teach our kids at home: For reference: The book is Stuck on Earth and is about an alien visiting Earth. This is from a report to his homeworld. During our extensive orbital monitoring, we observed that nearly all of the bad habits manifested by adult humans can be traced back to their early development and were acquired and reinforced during a twelve-year period of voluntary daily incarceration known as "school." DD age 15 thinks this might just be one of the funniest books
  8. Any such animal out there? :001_smile: DS will begin 9th grade in the fall. I haven't pushed him much in writing, prefering to leave it by the wayside till he has more interest. So I feel he might do better with a middle school or jr high level curriculum for now. He writes quite well, uses good vocabulary and is a natural speller but is reluctant to write more and won't write often. I have some anxiety that with high school on the horizon, he should work harder at it than he has been doing. I hope to start him off by introducing something that will make him laugh but haven't found any
  9. I never knew he had it in him. Here he is doing an extremely "reduced Shakespeare company" version of the Parable of the Unmerciful Servant for our KidzKlub yesterday. It's been forever since I laughed so hard.
  10. I don't care if it's children's, young adult's, or adult's. I'm just in the mood for some humor.
  11. WARNING: Part of this is slightly crude. That is the danger of having teenaged boys. If potty humor offends you, and you will think less of me forever, just go ahead and place me on your ignore list now and don't read further... I do solemnly swear that all which follows was actually inspired by true happenings in my home. (Unfortunately, I did not *intend* for my home to be so dirty. I just intended to have children. They were male. The dirt came with them.) ********************************************************** Think "Weird Al Yankovitch" and sing along to "Hotel Cali
  12. Oh, I think I need to send them to school so they can get it right. Do I teach them nothing? :D Ds 14 was teasing dd 10 today, and he called her a "liar, liar" so she called him a "liar, liar, pumpkin eater." I laughed so hard, then called her a "cheater, cheater pants on fire." :D probably not that funny to many........ but it doesn't take much for me these days. I just NEED to laugh. Regularly. Any other funnies?
  13. What's the matter? Don't you have the ingenuity to create your very own? Yes, I am being facetious here but I really am curious. It's a real pain in the butt to wade through 575 responses I have already read when obviously we could just have the same conversations all over again. Who knows, maybe someone will have something new and refreshing to say. Come on people, this is boring. Let's be creative. :D
  14. Disclaimer stating that I am not intending to cause trouble but am just providing very important information. Hyperlink to article from reputable news source indicting candidate I do not support. Passive/aggressive comment about hypocrisy of said candidate and those who support him. :D Commentary on sad state of affairs of our world when anyone would lend their support to said candidate.:tongue_smilie: Unbridled support of candidate I do support.
  15. I just told my boys, "Hey, naked light saber fights are not allowed." One of the boys had just taken a shower and instead of getting dressed, he thought he should just join in on the fun with his brothers.
  16. Forwarded to me by my dad, lol... THE ABILITY TO MAKE AND UNDERSTAND PUNS IS THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT. Here are the ten first place winners in the International Pun Contest: 1. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess looks at him and says, 'I'm sorry, sir, only one carrion allowed per passenger.' 2. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says 'Dam!' 3. Two men sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak an
  17. Have you seen this? I did a search of the boards for this, so I hope this wasn't posted without the title. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtNGFh-dCe0&feature=email
  18. Be forewarned, it's by Weird Al Yankovic, most of whom's music I loathe, but several of his songs I think are either brilliant (or, as my brother-the-physics geek said about this one, "bloody brilliant") like this one called Bob http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=Nej4xJe4Tdg&feature=related , Or hilarious like his White and Nerdy Song, which I've seen in 3 versions now--the first take with Donny Osmond dancing the whole time, the official one, which is even funnier, and one someone did with Legos (the last one I sent to my brother who is a major lego fan & wore lego cufflinks &
  19. Sorry, the source I had didn't give the source, but thought this might come in handy today. Investment Tips for 2008 With all the turmoil in the market today and the collapse of Lehman Bros and acquisition of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America this might be some good advice. For all of you with any money left, be aware of the next expected mergers so that you can get in on the ground floor and make some BIG bucks. Watch for these consolidations later this year: Hale Business Systems, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Fuller Brush, and W. R. Grace Co. Will merge and become: Hale, Mary, Fuller,
  20. Here's a link to the "debate" they did between McCain and Obama. Btw...Tina Fey reprised her role as Sarah Palin during another sketch, but I'm not going to post it because it's only funny for one side of the political fence. This one pokes fun of both of them and that's my kind of humor. :) http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/presidential-debate/704121/
  21. This is from July, but is relevant today-- More at the link.
  22. It was yesterday, actually. I was driving my children home and heard one boy say, "...and if your pee is dark yellow it means that you need more vegetables." Another boy agrees. Another boy asks, "Mom, is that right?" And my answer is, "Well, now, I haven't studied that." My littlest giggles and says, "Study pee!" To which his all knowing brother replies, "Yeah, you know, it's 'Pee-alology'":001_huh: I've been snickering ever since. What's been funny in your home lately? Bee
