  1. Thanks guys :) Your comments mean a lot and your checking in/reading along is motivational! Meriweather, Thanks for your words of advice! I am keeping track of my losses of course but I will pay attention and see if I notice any patterns like you mentioned. Congrats on your loss so far and good luck with the rest of your goal! Now keep your fingers that I lose at least 1 1/2 lbs this week, everybody, I'd love to be out of these 220's already :D (I probably just jinxed myself saying that and it'll be another one of those lose-less-than-a-pound weeks haha). I have an adult birthday party to go to tomorrow night so I'm sure I will indulge too much there. But I did NOT indulge in the cupcakes and cookies that looked sooooo good at my oldest daughter's back to school night/open house thing last night, so that's something, right? (OK I licked a little frosting off my fingers after I unwrapped my son's cupcake but that doesn't count! :P) And I plan to go to the gym Monday and Wednesday and eat well the rest of the week, so hopefully it'll be a decent week for me. :)
  2. I never have. It sounds like it might be a "this would be a fun thing to do for a day" kind of thing. But on an ongoing basis? I don't think I'd want the responsibility, and I would think that it would be hard to make sure you were covering whatever the other parent would have covered. Or is that the point, to just do something totally different from what you otherwise might have learned or something? Like I said, I think it would be fun to try (maybe) but not ongoing.
  3. Dukes of Hazard Family Ties The Facts Of Life Alf Smurfs Diff'rent Strokes Small Wonder Charles In Charge Silver Spoons Webster Who's The Boss Inspector Gadget ETA: Oh, I have to also add The Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, and The Flintstones after reading other peoples' answers. :D
  4. I spend anywhere from a few minutes to an hour a day on Kindergarten. The program I use is very laid back and gentle and Waldorf-inspired. It does not focus on teaching a kid to read in Kindergarten or pushing academics. It focuses on teaching the capital letters of the alphabet in hands on ways and through stories, and the qualitative values of the numbers 1-10 in similar ways, and crafts, nature, music and movement and so on. I really wouldn't worry about a kid not reading at 4 or 5 or even 6. There's that whole "Better Late Than Early" theory by some parents and 'experts' anyway. K should be more hands on and fun IMHO, not really worksheet focused, unless your kid loves worksheets or something (I wouldn't FORCE deskwork on a K'er though)! And with lots of opportunity for creativity, imagination, outdoor play, free play, helping parents with things around the house and so on.
  5. Do you mean for reading poetry, or writing it? There's a book called "Teaching Poetry, Yes You Can!" by Jacqueline Sweeney that I found really helpful for putting together like a 10 week poetry workshop that I did with like 6 girls, aged 8-11 once.
  6. OK do you guys care if I bump this? SOMEONE needs to celebrate with me because this was my first week ever losing 3+ lbs and I am quite excited about it (see my post immediately above this one). Any takers...? :P
  7. Because I'm on a diet, I eat a LOT of boneless, skinless chicken breast. It doesn't help that I'm not a big fan of fish (I eat shrimp but I just don't like fish unless it's battered, fried and dipped in ketchup or tartar sauce or something). So I eat chicken multiple times a week. Oh, and I don't really like dark meat, so it's always chicken breasts. I need to cook my chicken in a way that it's not overly time consuming (I don't want any fancy recipes that require a thousand ingredients I'm not likely to have on hand and a hundred complicated steps, I'm not that much of a cook to begin with lol), is low fat, and still tastes good. I do the regular bake it with the standard seasonings kind of thing (salt, pepper, garlic, maybe sazon etc) and serve it with baked potatoes or brown rice or some such. I do chicken fajitas/tacos with low-cal wraps, lettuce, tomato, fat free cheddar cheese and lite sour cream. Sometimes I put a low fat cream of mushroom soup on it before baking and serve with brown rice and veggies. Sometimes I bake it with ff mozzarella cheese and top it with sauce for a healthy "chicken parm" kind of thing and have it with Smart Taste pasta. Sometimes I do a low fat chicken "scampi" with 0 cal butter spray, lemon and garlic and have it with brown rice or Smart Taste pasta... Sometimes I take leftover chicken and we'll just do chicken sandwiches on lite bread with lettuce and tomato and reduced fat mayo or low cal ranch spray or something. But those are about all the ideas I've got. Do you guys have any other ideas for me? I've been eating tons of chicken for the past two months and I need some fresh ideas of what to do with it. Thanks in advance :)
  8. This one would be fun for you and the kids! My sister brought it over one day and gave my daughter a bread-baking lesson from it. It was a neat book. 9. Thinking about you! Glad the lymph nodes were clear, hoping you get more good news between today and tomorrow!
  10. We won't be at that stage til next year but I'm guessing about an hour and a half.

  12. It would probably rub me wrong too, the coach saying that- but then again like others have said, the proper equipment for a sport is expected from the very first practice on, for safety reasons and for effectiveness etc. If your son showed up at several practices without the right equipment, and couldn't even tell the coach "we're getting them on such and such a date," I'm sure the coach didn't know what to think. I, too, would have made getting them a priority at some point over the weekend. Throw the laundry in the washing machine, run to the shoe store.
  13. My library card is one of those keychain ones so it's always attached to my keys. As for the books, we have a special place to keep our library books, which is the only thing I can recommend- but you're already doing that lol. ETA: I have my library card number memorized, too! I input it often enough to reserve books online or through ILL!
  14. fixing something around the house renting a video together Cooking something (if your husband ever likes to cook) (maybe something like pizza or pancakes) Having breakfast in bed together (served by mom) Playing a board game together Washing the car together
  15. Chucki, I just noticed your signature line. Too funny, I love that parent/teacher conference line! (er, sorry for the thread hijack). <goes back to commiserating with the OP> :D
  16. Oh... Okay. I was going to say good luck but I wasn't entirely sure if it would be appropriate lol. Aren't there tests that can tell earlier than the first day of a missed period? Maybe you can at least shave a few days off of the suspense or something! Hope you get the outcome you most want, even if you aren't quite sure what that is :D
  17. LOL! That was my ring tone for a while, too (The Wonder Pets). I loved it, I thought it was so funny. It always made people smile when they heard it. I just have some stock one right now, I really ought to download myself a ring tone.
  18. Well...yes. As for me, I just had the following for dessert: 1 Cup of Special K Red Berry cereal with 1 Cup of 1% milk Topped with a small sliced banana and a handful of raisins. It was actually very filling and satisfied my sweet tooth.
