  1. My daughter took her first chemistry class at the community college and did fine. There was one for science majors and one for non science majors. She did the later and did fine. Now she did have the math and had done physics in high school (hated it), but did a programming course instead of chemistry her senior year.
  2. With the older editions it comes later, I'm thinking Algebra 1 but it might be Algebra 1/2. Not before. Linda
  3. A sketchpad is good. Also a blending stump to help with shading. Another idea is a good set of colored pencils and a book on how to use them. My daughter was able to take a semesters class on color theory with a lady that taught her how to blend with colored pencils. I am amazed at what she can do with them. My daughter has also taken classes with paints -- both acrylic and watercolor. Pencils (or pen and ink) drawing are still her favorite. She does like to add a touch of color wih her colored pencils, though. Linda
  4. They usually want to see them back in the office a week later to make certain everything is healing. Normally that would be fine for healing, but I had one that had dry socket and had to go back several times the first two weeks to treat that. I have had 4 that had wisdom teeth removed with sedation. I hope this helps with your decision.
  5. I'm so sorry. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  6. Yes but I haven't even looked at calculus in 11 years so I am a might rusty. I was thinking there was a calculus way but today only delved into limits with this girl. First time in 11 years I've had to think about them.
  7. Thank you both for your quick answers. I knew I needed to find the radius of the small er circle, but could not figure out how to do it. I was helping someone prepare for a math certification test and after an hour of trying to explain limits and trig functions my brain was fried. :001_smile:
  8. I feel totally stupid but right now I have no idea how to approach this problem A spherical balloon is filled with water so it is 3 inches deep at the deepest part. The balloon has a diameter of 8 inches. What is the area of the top surface of the water. Thanks for your help. Linda
  9. Still praying. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  10. My daughter bought me something from JoAnn's that is a light and magnifying glass combo. I have used it quite a bit lately to see my stitches. You could try something like that. I could not find the one she bought me just now, but I did see some similar ones for about $15.
  11. I hate that standardized tests matter so much. I have two with test anxiety, two without. All are smart kids. The standardized test scores by no means indicate their ability for college! I have two graduated from college. The older had full scholarship based on his test scores. The younger went to a community college first and got her AA because she thought she could not do college because of how she tested. She later transferred to the school her brother went to. She had the higher overall GPA (even if you counted all grades from the community college)! Both are engineers. I hate standardized tests, but I am prepping the youngest hard because she is a great test taker.
  12. It is possible to do the Advanced Math in one year. I had two do that and went on to calculus. They both did fine in college, both engineers graduating with high gpa's. My third took two years with that book however. Linda
  13. I'm good here in the DFW area. We live on a "hill" so would be the last to flood in our area. I am tired of no electricity however. The second time in a week we have been out for 9 hours. And that does not count the shorter 30 minute to 2 hour periods.
  14. My girls are 4 years apart so, no, I do not think that bot needed to be included in the invitation. However, many, many times I would take the older to a party only to find that my younger was one of the only siblings not invited. There were several there her age (and we all went to the same church). Of course they had been going to the church for a long time and we were relative newcomers, but I could not believe how rude this was. (And it happened several times)
  15. Watching my new nursing student help her youngest sister do dissections -- priceless

Love it! I'm asking mine to do the exact same this summer. :)

    AWANA

My children love AWANA. One of mine started at 5, the other 3 at 3. Three of mine have earned their Citation and the youngest only has 3 more years before she has hers. It is fun and it is challenging. My husband and I each have 20 years experience as leaders, directors, and commanders. Starting your own program is quite a bit of work. We did that at one church we were going to. By that time however we had already had one receive his citation, so we knew the program fairly well. Linda

  18. We like lazy vacations. The ones where we drive or fly somewhere and then stay. Two of our favorites were renting a house in Leadville Colorado and hiking in the area. We also took a day to do white water rafting and a day to do horse back riding. There are also some fun museums in the area. Another we rented a condo in Flagstaff Arizona and went to the Grand Canyon and other area attactions. It was in the middle of several. There is also a fantastic observatory there so we went and looked at stars throught their telescopes several nights. Linda
  19. I was thinking health or advanced logic of some sort. She actually write novels in her free time. She has at least two going right now -- one editing and one writing. She loves to sing,; both her choirs are ones she had to audition into. And music and piano competitions take up quite a bit of her time. Oh and she also draws well enough that she has been paid for some of her drawings. She is very talented and smart but has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She is my hardest child to figure out.
  20. My Rising 10th grader Saxon Advanced Math World History Chemistry Latin English -- I m' not certain what I'm doing yet, cobbling from the resources I have here I think I need to add another class but I'm not sure what to add. She is also in 2 choirs and might be accompanist for a third. Also piano lessons.
  21. I have been doing Saxon for years. There maybe a time when she has to slow down. My last two children were doing 76 at 10. Both did well. The older one went into Algebra 1/2 at 11 (big mistake she was not ready or maybe she wasn't ready for Algebra 1 at 12 -- it was 10 years ago) Anyway we took 2 years to do one of those two books. She did the Advanced Math book over 2 years and we did something like consumer math or statistics her senior year. She was (still is) going into nursing so I knew she did not need Calculus. The youngest is currently almost 15. She is finishing up Algebra 2 with no problems. I did Lials Basic College Math at 11, then Algebra 1/2 at 12. She is solid in math. I also do math with her over the summer -- usually just a few word problems a day(from another math publisher) as well as a PSAT study guide book. That way I am certain she knows math and not just Saxon. I am not certain you need to do another whole curriculum. Hope this helps Linda
  22. National Gallery of Art. It is big!!! And beautiful! Then Air and Space. Linda
