  1. I was going to bring a big jar to our co-op to request loose change donations. My mother and I are training to participate in a triathlon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. We are required to raise a substantial amount of donations in exchange for the training, mentors, etcetera. I thought a "tip jar" would be a non-aggressive way of soliciting funds. I was thinking of leaving it next to the sign in sheet with a sign explaining what we are trying to do. Too tacky?
  2. I find lots of special ed info at: http://www.wrightslaw.com/ "Parents, educators, advocates, and attorneys come to Wrightslaw for accurate, reliable information about special education law, education law, and advocacy for children with disabilities." HTH
  3. J. Jill, Casual corner, Gap, Old Navy, Columbia, Bass outlet and the Mall stores clearance racks.
  4. I bet it's yeast. It's very common for antibiotics to cause a yeast infection as they kill off the normal flora of the bowel. I'd call the pediatrician. Poor guy! :(
  5. A statement posted on PETA.org attributed to NBC said the ad "depicts a level of sexuality exceeding our standards.†But a second note to PETA attributed to Victoria Morgan, NBC vice president for advertising standards, suggested eight “edits that need to be made†so the ad could run. PETA refused to comply. “There´s no doubt that PETA is an advocacy group," Mr. Burch said. "They were willing to air an ad by PETA if they would simply tone down the sexual suggestiveness. Our ad is far less provocative, and hardly controversial by comparison.†"And back in 1998, when NBC last aired the Super Bowl, Bill Clinton had an ad about the president's initiative on race. That was political." http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jan/30/nbc-rejects-pro-life-ad-featuring-obama/
  6. I think so. The only time I ever buy chocolate is PMS week. I consume a lot! I don't think weight has anything to do with it. I'm 5'7"/ 120 lbs.
  7. The Mission, It's a Beautiful Life, Lord Of The Rings, Rabbit Proof Fence, The Passion of the Christ, National Treasure...
  8. I can post a note of FB and reach 150 friends and family within seconds. I prefer that to most personal correspondence. For the most part, I'm an introvert and Fb is my friend. It keeps me connected to those I love without me having to call. I do see your point, though. Last week a friend posted updates on her labor followed by birth stats on FB. One friend asked me two days ago if S had her baby yet. I felt really bad that no one told her.
  9. Very well said! I found myself in a situation where a person we were working with had a severe handicap. I wished my husband would have said something before I went to shake his hand then bumbled like a fool.
  10. This is exactly how I feel too unless it's my dh, kids or mother. I do love my cell and I use it to read and send emails to all the people I won't speak to over the phone. :)
  11. I too had a most unplanned/expected pregnancy. I was absolutely devastated. A dear friend knowing my situation gave me a huge hug and said, "a baby is always a blessing." It took me 7 months to accept the pregnancy. lol But she was right. I will pray for you. It's my hope that your dh will find a job that's even better. If you don't have insurance call around and find a OB that will give you a discounted cash (or payment plan) rate. I wish you the best. I'm so very sorry for your terrible day. :grouphug:
  12. #2! Disney would be a one time deal. The camper would last for years and years. The last time we were at Disney my kids asked if we could skip the parks and visit the beach for the day. I don't think we will go back for a very long time.
  13. We went years ago in Denver. I brought all my kids, some were in strollers. We all thought it was fascinating. There was a pregnant woman and fetuses that captivated the kids. The circulatory system stuff was very cool. I'd take them again in a second if it ever comes back. There wasn't anyone playing poker at ours.
  14. In 7th grade I noticed the "troubled" kids got special attention from the art teacher. She was so cool. I *really* wanted her to focus on me. One day we were alone in the supply room. I blurted out, "I'm pregnant." I had never even held a boy's hand and I hadn't yet begun to menstruate. But I did watch a lot of One Life to Live.... I followed it up by stating that my parents would kick me out of the house if they knew. I was terrified and had no one to talk to. It worked. We began a special relationship. She took me shopping, out to lunch, on walks... I knew everyone in class was jealous, she was the. coolest. teacher. ever. A few weeks later, at an ice cream store, she inquired as to the identity of the "baby's" father. I knew I couldn't name anyone at our school, she knew everyone. So, I told her it was my best friend's older brother. I didn't know that this particular boy was a former student. I was also unaware, as I had never actually spoken to him, that he was 20. I was 12. Ooops. Two hours later CPS was at my front door. The police had already visited the boy and his parent's house. Obviously, my best friend and her parents never spoke to me again. :( The art teacher was pissed. She refused to even look at me. I was black listed. My parents put me in counseling and I changed schools the following year. I still can't believe I did that.
