If you or your child has POTS
historically accurate replied to kristin0713's topic in The Chat Board
My middle DD has a pretty severe case - a good day for her is dizziness, brain fog, and no more than 4 fainting episodes. She's lower energy than other 17 year olds, but fatigue isn't a real problem. She does often have heart palpitations with occasional chest pain. Her heart rate can run 200+ just standing up or walking across the room. She's also extremely heat-intolerant (to the point that she doesn't feel cold ever - she got frostbite from roller skating in the dead of winter). She started fainting in 8th grade (her first and only try in a school setting). It was originally decided that it was trauma related - a sort of extreme disassociation. She underwent several months of trauma therapy, and she was still passing out daily. Her therapist recommended we look for other causes of her fainting. We went through several doctors and tests - PCP, neurologist, several other specialists. Most of the doctors we saw during this time dismissed her symptoms as anxiety and PTSD - her PCP kept at it while the specialists talked about Functional Neurological Disorder/Conversion Disorder. After months in of lots of testing, an EKG showed a heart problem, and she was popped to the top of a cardiologist's list. Apparently, we happened to catch her heart muscle flexing too much and not "bouncing back" after beating like it should. Note: we've never seen another heart abnormality in her dozens of EKG's since. The cardiologist we met with works with a nurse practitioner who specializes in POTS. The cardiologist referred DD after we went through her history, and she was diagnosed at the first meeting with the NP. They did the "Poor Man's Tilt Table" test - she fainted before making it to 2 1/2 minutes standing. My oldest DD often feels "funny" or "faint", but she's never fainted. Her PCP (who has EDS and mild POTS) says, "we'll just treat her as though she has POTS", so she does the salt, compression, and water. She was at college in the US southeast, and the heat definitely was a problem for her. -
Looking for records of price changes over the last year
historically accurate replied to saraha's topic in The Chat Board
My orders have changed a lot - we have now gone gluten free so we buy different items. But since I have used Walmart grocery for curbside pickup since the pandemic started, I did a cart that matched what I bought on Sept 18 of last year. Note this is the exact same Walmart - we have not moved. First price is Sept 18, 2021/Second price is Sept 21, 2022 m&m family size $3.38/$6.98 Store brand pancake mix $1.68/$1.98 2% gallon milk $2.25/$2.87 gala apples $1.47 per pound/$0.84 per pound peaches $1.28 per pound/$2.08 per pound Crackers $1.98/$2.78 Loaf of Honey Wheat Bread $1.98/$2.68 Gallon white vinegar $1.58/$2.28 Hot dog buns $0.88/$1.00 Lemonade mix $1.18/$1.94 Garlic Bread $2.00/$2.00 Store brand cooking spray $1.97/$2.28 Italian seasoning packets $3.98/$4.98 Cake mix $1.20/$1.58 Frosting $1.50/$1.74 Tombstone frozen pizza $3.77/$4.58 Pretzels $1.98/$1.98 Velveeta $5.88/$4.98 eggs (dozen) $1.17/$2.22 yogurt $1.80/$2.36 Cheerios $5.98/$6.98 rotel $0.98/$1.28 canned tomatoes $0.88/$1.68 pasta $1.60/$2.38 vitamin c lozenges $1.97/$2.12 ziploc bags $3.82/$4.64 tartar sauce $1.30/$1.38 fish sticks $3.48/$4.62 frozen hash browns $2.96/$3.68 dove deodorants $5.90/$6.88 -

Heartlikealion, Your kitchen looks fantastic - I'm impressed with your Can-Do attitude! I would've hated the mismatched doors/cabinets, but I probably wouldn't have ever gotten around to painting. Great job! Good luck on the job hunting. I'm trying to convince DH to ask for a raise - his company just released a job posting for the job below him. The salary range is from .60 an hour below his current pay to 6.40 above his current pay. Grrrr... He's so mild-mannered though, he probably won't. I've always done payroll at my jobs, so I always, always ask for more money after a year on the job since I know what everyone else gets. Got cheap gas yesterday as we were about 2 hours away for a doctor's appointment. $3.29 rather than the $3.79 it is here. Still struggling to get the grocery budget in line with the new gluten free diet and inflation prices. Ugh. Youngest needed shirts for fall -- the cold weather arrives tomorrow according to the forecast. Found her a couple of shirts at Plato's Closet and Old Navy. I have Old Navy cash good for end of October, so I've marked that on my calendar to see if anyone else needs something. With this next paycheck, DH and I will have enough to go on a daytrip. Boat ride, house tour & dinner out. We both need a break.

I failed yesterday too - looked very similar to yours. I got today's though: Wordle 458 5/6 ⬜⬜🟨⬜🟩 ⬜🟨⬜🟨🟩 🟩🟩⬜⬜🟩 🟩🟩⬜⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

What are your goals for your kids, as far as college?
historically accurate replied to Drama Llama's topic in The Chat Board
I think all of my kids would be well served by some sort of schooling following high school. However, I don't know that a 4 year right after college is it. None of my kids would've thrived at an elite school, so it was not even on my radar. My kids are 20, 17 & 15. DD 20 finished an AS in high school, and went to a different state's public college for 2 years (she would still have about 2, possibly 3, semesters left to get her BS). Our state's flagship's program was highly, highly competitive, so she ended up for a similar price in a different state. Partly because of online instead of in-person classes, partly because of physical and mental health, partly because of college not being such a good fit for her, she is home for a year while she figures out life. She is thinking about doing a mechatronics certificate program at our local cc next semester. She would be a good fit for working and night school as she hated the college life. DD 17 wants to be a nurse. She does not want to do the AAS program available at our local cc. She wants the full college experience. Her physical health is an issue that may mean her dream isn't attainable. She is only a junior so we will figure it out eventually. DD 15 has never been academically inclined. She would do well by a cc program or just going to work. We have a wonderful gift from other family members -- donations into 529s for the kids' educations. That is their budget and they know how much they have. They have to cover anything above that (DH and I cover travel to and from school, books, and supplies and a minimal amount toward tuition). If they choose not to use it now, it will sit there for their future or future generations... -

I am so happy that you have found something that works for you! Question: do you think what you are doing would work for fainting and not just stumbling? My DD is a chronic fainter; she's currently fainting multiple (like 5-10) times a day. We had gotten it under control, but it's flaring pretty bad right now. Would learning "how to fall" or "lessen the consequences of the fall" work if she's unconscious for those first few seconds?
-
I probably wouldn't have gotten it except my DD said without realizing I was still working on my Wordle, "I don't even know what that word means..." It stopped me from guessing common words.

We have a Street Road as well - it's "Main" Street in town, and it becomes "Main" Street Road at the edge of town.

Ha! I used the word as a wordle guess in the last week or so - it was really close to the actual guess. So today, I was like, totally not this word, but it'll just rattle around in your head if you don't use it up. Wordle 452 3/6 ⬜🟨⬜⬜🟩 🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Yep, DH and I really thought about putting an offer on a house a few years back. I would've hated living on Be-Ver-Kreek Road (beaver creek) - ugh, having to spell that monstrosity, hyphens and all, every time you give out your address. While the name of the road was a strike against it, we decided against it for other reasons. DH refuses to look at houses on Hurlbut (named after someone in the Civil War) here in town. Apparently, there is a whole town (population 305) called Hurlbut in Illinois; I don't think DH would appreciate that since he doesn't even like it as a street name.
