We still had the washing machine in our garage, and it was the neighborhood garage sales today. So I ran through the house last night gathering junk treasures, and I put out about 3 tables. Made a fairly nice profit and freed up space in the house. Washing machine and punching bag were the two big items that sold. I closed up around 1 pm because it was looking pretty spare and people were just slowing down but not stopping since we didn't have much then. Have 2 boxes and 2 larger things to take to Salvation Army and 2 boxes of books for the library. Only brought 2 prom dresses back into the house - we'll sell those next prom season (DD can't fit into them anymore). My paycheck next week should have a little bonus and a raise. Yay! Also, I worked an extra 1 1/2 hours due to it being the fiscal year end this past week, so that paycheck will have a little bump in a couple of weeks. Finally, I should get 3 days' pay from my second job due to getting the 4th as a paid holiday (normally, I only work 2 afternoons a week there).

JAWM it is night three of fireworks and I am over it

We had a couple of nights with big storms (so hail & thunder noise) which meant no fireworks those nights. Apparently, the neighbors still have the fireworks because they were going off last night. -

Which completely negates Illinois' red flag law because as I understand it, the family members have to say that they want the guns removed. Only individuals with certain relationships to those who are at risk are eligible to file a FRO petition against them in Illinois; eligible individuals include blood relatives, presently married spouses, former spouses, persons who have a child in common, and household members (e.g. roommates, unmarried partners). https://icjia.illinois.gov/researchhub/articles/firearm-restraining-orders-in-illinois/ -

DH just walked out of the bathroom with a grumbling, "Well, that was a horrible night of sleep." They went until about 2 am in my neighborhood, as they have been all week. I expect about 2 more days of it. -

A map showing paid maternity leave by country
historically accurate replied to Happy2BaMom's topic in The Chat Board
My cousin was unable to get a hysterectomy until after her marriage at age 35 "because she or her future husband may have wanted children". Even though she tried treatment after treatment for years - even though doctors told her there was no other option left except a hysterectomy at age 25 - even though she was often unable to hold a job due to absences and weighed 85 pounds because she couldn't eat without excruciating stomach pain and/or vomiting. She got married at age 35, and husband told off the doctor (after watching cousin suffer in pain for about a month); next month, full hysterectomy. She's healthy and happy and almost 50 now. -

A map showing paid maternity leave by country

My story: I was eligible for the 12 week FMLA unpaid leave at my job. I used 7 weeks in March 2001 to have a uterine surgery - I had to have this surgery to get pregnant. It worked really, really, really well, and I was pregnant 8 weeks later. DD was born in February 2002. Unfortunately, FMLA is on a rolling 12 month calendar. I had only 5 weeks left due to getting pregnant so quickly after surgery. Doctor put me on bed rest 3 weeks prior to birth. So, two weeks left following birth. Doctor wouldn't let me return to work until 6 weeks after the c-section. So, work had to stuff it even though I was no longer covered under FMLA. But... DD was born on a Thursday. I decided to take my 6 weeks and then 1 day (the Friday) and return to work on the next Monday. They called Friday and fired me since I was no longer covered under FMLA or medical leave...- 215 replies
