  1. Poker is popular here among the boys those ages as well.
  2. My DS is not homeschooled. He took algebra in middle school and then did the AOPS Intro to Algebra online. AOPS is very challenging and thorough, but since he had already taken it in school, it was a good fit for him. I listened to the advice on here to make sure he had mastery of algebra. We might do it with algebra 2 this summer as well. FWIW- his school math program isn't very strong.
  3. DS is in public school 9th grade, so they signed him up for the PSAT 10. Is there anyway to get a scoring index from those scores? Or are those only valid for the PSAT/NMSQT? And surprisingly, he has always tested way higher in math than any reading or writing test, but was slightly higher in reading on this one. I think that's a good sign for future test taking for him.
  4. I don't remember it being anything groundbreaking. DS is allergic to nuts and I do remember it breaking those out. Let me look for the book and refresh my memory. I did not try any of the recipes.
  5. I think it was this book https://www.amazon.com/Feeding-Young-Athlete-Nutrition-Players/dp/0983661529 I ordered it based on that thread.
  6. I agree with you. And I'm trying very hard to not become one of "those" dog people. I'm sorry she's not coming to visit over Christmas.
  7. It also sounds like he spends a lot of time at work - is there anything that he could use for his job?
  8. This is an older list - but maybe something will spur an idea https://www.buzzfeed.com/terripous/more-like-herstory?utm_term=.qaqzJzvXX#.ysZo2o6ee My logic game loving teen is into chess - maybe a chess set? Quarto is a good logic game I enjoy playing with DS.
  9. I meant I've been on weight watchers, not the version though. The new plan is effective for me Friday on my weigh in day. But I'm still a Weight watchers fan:) and I think the new program will be great and lead me to healthier choices.
  10. I've been on it three months and I'm excited about the change. It will definitely lead me toward healthier choices and I like the rollover features for special occasions. I've lost 11 pounds. I think this comes at a good time to keep me motivated through the holidays and the new year.
  11. It was on a previous year's 9th grade math competition test we were using to prepare for this year's competition. No calculators are allowed and he has never covered that subject in class. So, I was wondering what I was missing. Thanks for the help!
  12. Is this question written correctly? Thanks all! You confirmed my thoughts. Wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
  13. He's got some long legs! My son is almost the exact measurements but he can wear 26's in the regular inseam which I'm guessing is 30 or 32 and I thought he had long legs! He does belt them pretty good but they work so far. He finds them at American Eagle or Abercrombie. Abercrombie has some that they call Super Skinny, that don't look like that on him, but work. But I checked their website and it looks like 34 long doesn't come into play until a 28 inch waist there either.
  14. Possibly chocolate covered pretzels or strawberries? I'm not sure about the dairy free chocolate.
  15. My hairdresser recommended for me to avoid washing my hair every day. I did end up growing it into a style that works better. But I also asked her what to do when I had a sweaty head. She told me rinsing it with just water was still better than using shampoo every day. So I do that and I have a spray in oil that I use instead of rinse out conditioner.
  16. If you can open it this way- this is a great list of deals today. Check out this article from USA TODAY: These are the best Cyber Monday deals you can get right now https://usat.ly/2k26oL0
  17. American eagle. My DS got some on sale at Abercrombie a few weeks ago. Black jeans are popular this year. You should be able to find a good variety.
  18. Will Freshman scores be released on the same schedule? If they took the PSAT 8/9 test?
  19. Chess board Poker set Rubik's cube Camera "Cool" shoes Travel or monogrammed shaving bag for travel Rock climbing gym pass or other local activity Travel anywhere And my DS 15 says "cash" :)
  20. https://m.zappos.com/p/karen-kane-cascade-wrap-dress-black/product/7955331/color/3?ef_id=WgZykgAAAeXXrPVo:20171111034626:s This is a flattering dress that can be accessorized. It's a nice fabric for the price and mine washes up well in the washing machine.
  21. The weekly points and weekly weigh in are my favorite parts so far. It seems to break it into doable chunks of time. I've done myfitnesspal before and I track my food in there sometimes just to see, but in general I eat a lot of the same things so I know where I stand. Good luck!
  22. Thanks. She will not go to the dr. Has never been a fan of "traditional" medicine. For other reasons, she is not currently driving so we are grateful for that.
  23. Is there anything you can do for a parent you believe is developing memory problems, but refuses to get medical care?
  24. I've been in it a little over 2 months and I'm a fan so far. I went in wanting to lose about 40 pounds, I've lost 10. I knew what to eat, I had beliefs of what kind of foods are healthiest, but I needed boundaries. And the accountability of tracking. The points system does steer you toward protein/ low carb. Carbs and sugar are high enough in points to discourage you. I really like the separation of daily points and weekly points. It fits my lifestyle well. I can use my weeklies for a nice dinner out and still be on plan by cutting it back the rest of the week. I am online only and the Connect community on the app is so inspiring and supportive. There are people there losing 10 pounds, 100's of pounds, vegan, vegetarian, etc. And so much information. People are always linking helpful articles, lots of BTDT advice and support. I'm a fan. And as far as gaining back weight- it's a lifestyle. Many people confess they stopped tracking, and yes, they gained the weight back. But there are lots of people on there who have kept it off for years and post to inspire others to stick with it.
