  1. i'm actually a Germanic Heathen, which is my religious persuasion! :D
  2. does any one have kids who have participated in this? my oldest recieved an invitation to go to Europe next summer, and i'm wondering what the catch is. how much does this cost? how long is the trip? thanks!
  3. i really think the inital man who said this may have been taken out of context. i think there is an instinctual competition between men...i don't think this guy has to really work to keep himself from smacking everyone he comes across. i think he was trying to express a latent male energy that may be stronger in some males than in others. i don't think he's a violent maniac; i understand what he was getting at.
  4. i am and have always been 'one of the guys'. i get along much better with men and really can only have relationships with women when i can keep them at arms length...of course, i've often wondered if abnormally drama-filled women are drawn to me for some reason.
  5. actually, lots of companies will take your rugs and drapes and clean them at their shops...and return them at their leisure.
  6. i go for the jaw-dropper: 'we're a fully persuaded Heathen family, thanks for your concern!' :)
  7. :iagree: i use the extract topically if i get a pimple. if i'm having trouble all over my face, i mix a few drops with whatever i'm washing with.
  8. The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. halfway through and it's the best thing i've read all summer.
  9. i had to stop watching. i'm ill over it. :crying: on the bright side (as a die-hard Dynamo fan) at least we get Stuie and Ching back.
  10. :iagree: we do have a savings account for emergencies. considering it would be 800 bucks a month for an entirely healthy family of 5, i just can't see it happening. and i don't like big pharma-fed medicine anyway, so no thanks.
  11. :iagree: this is a fail-proof tip that works for absolutely everyone.
  12. laundry. what's funny is my dad retired at 51 to be a SAHD and we call each other to complain about laundry at least 4 times a week. (he has one less person in his household and has no grounds to complain IMO :001_tt2: ) ...since my 13 year old started doing the dishes my nails look oh-so nice! :)
  13. is this a secular text? i went to the Homeschool Store today to get a look at it and they don't carry it. i'm tempted to order it sight unseen...which has been a big no-no in the past!
  14. Texas Children's is building a new facility in Katy right now, there's some really nice (and safe!) places to live out here as well as a massive homeschool community. lots of people might recommend Sugarland if you're going to be driving in to the medical center, but Sugarland is always on the news for home invasions. i'd guess it's got the highest rate of b&e in the whole area.
  15. i've been in the Houston area since i was 5 and have never been a victim of crime! honestly, the only drawbacks to living in the Houston area are -lack of scenic beauty -heat and humidity -traffic we are pretty well insulated from the big economic problems and it's a very good place to make a living. the west, far north, and northwest sides of town are most desirable...i'd steer clear of the east side if i were you!
  16. i have a phobia of public restroom sinks. i've seen them cultured vs the toilets and...wow. no one is really cleaning their hands there! you know it's bad when you're such a germophobe you won't wash your hands! we do the hand sanitizer thing as well. :)
  17. when i was 100+ pounds overweight i was invisible. cashiers would never strike up a conversation, and you could forget about someone making a friendly remark in passing. now, people talk to me everywhere.
  18. HOW?!? my two boys do soccer, my daughter has done dance in the past but is now starting piano lessons, my husband does Jiu-Jitsu training and i would love to play on the womens league soccer team...but i don't have time. i have to keep everyone to one activity or i end up wanting to jump off a cliff. i have no idea how you do it.
  19. i am very happy now. borderline exuberant! i spent the first few years of my adult life quite miserable, so being able to achieve a constant, workable happiness and satisfation has been wonderful.
  20. a daily routine of: claritin DHEA fish oil 125 mg grapefruit seed extract tablet Eucerin cream after bathtime has my daughter under control for the first time in her life.
  21. when i used to have eczema it would take the pigment out for sure. it's almost like a light scarring that will disappear as soon as she gets a little sun there. i really don't think it's the cortizone cream causing it.
  22. i didn't mean freak in a bad way! :tongue_smilie: my husband is a fast food junkie. he's only about 20-30 pounds overweight because his job is pretty demanding...but that's not going to save him from health problems, you know? he's mostly supportive of my fitness goals, although from time to time he'll tell me i'm working too hard at the gym or try to force some fast food on me. :ack2: i really hate to nag him about it, but it's hard for me to deal with...i'd like to keep him around as long as possible.
  23. does your husband share your outlook on fitness, diet, and exercise? if not, how does it affect you?
  24. if this were just an example of a kid being a bit behind in some skills or a particular skill, i wouldn't have posted it in this context. i'm not an academic snob who judges another family's educational choices...but choosing not to educate is not fair to the child and makes it very tough for them to live up to their potential.
