  1. When do you think is the best time to watch literature lectures? Before the student reads the book because they have great background on the author? During or after? What do you think? thanks Carolyn
  2. Will I be just as happy with this as the print version? I do buy a lot of curricula as PDF's and print them, but has anyone had any snags with this? Will a huge chunk of the 40% savings be eaten up by printing costs? thanks Carolyn
  3. Take a look at this one - it's free. http://education-portal.com/academy/course/high-school-physical-science.html Carolyn
  4. We had the same experience as Regentrude. I never had to print off a transcript. I think even the "Final" copy that went to the college dd now attends was submitted electronically. And I had even purchased nice paper . . . :) Carolyn
  5. More thoughts on the Biology - You can buy the course plan, which has the syllabus, tests and tests answers, and the answer key, which has daily work answers. Look for the actual textbook elsewhere before you buy it from Kolbe - you can probably find it cheaper. There is also a note-taking guide/workbook which Kolbe lists as optional, you can buy it from them or Amazon. There is a vocabulary review in there for each chapter and I used those as quizzes. The course plans have both a regular plan and an honors plan, so you can choose between them for your student. Carolyn
  6. My aspie son has problems telling two sisters who live next door apart. These are girls who have played with my dd since they were toddlers, are always around the house and my ds knows the family very well. Still one will come to the door to ask for dd, and he won't know which one it is. I am only ok with faces in person, but when I am watching a movie, I always end up asking "wait, is that the same guy who did X before?" I am terrible with faces then, and have only realized this in the past few years. Carolyn
  7. My daughter started with Elementary Greek, loved the book and absolutely fell in love with the language. She did 2 years of EG, and the 3rd book over the summer (for fun!) and and I signed her up for Greek at Scholars Online (Attic Greek)in 8th grade. She took 5 years of Greek online, including a year Homeric Greek, and won the National Greek Exam Scholarship - almost 2 years ago and I am still bragging :) . She is now majoring in Classics. I think Elementary Greek is a good start for your child's age. Carolyn
  8. Wow, what a good idea!. The thought being that if the SAT score is satisfactory at that point, that the student is over and done with it? That might be be very motivating . . . thanks Carolyn
  9. Thanks for everyone's help. At this point it looks like SAT is the winner - unless 10th grade is too early to write off the ACT? He may be on the edge for National Merit on the PSAT - he would have to take the SAT in that case, right? thanks again Carolyn
  10. Thanks for the links. I found one for PSAT as well. According to those, he is in a higher percentile on PSAT/SAT than ACT? Why would there be such differences? Just different ways of thinking? Even to me, the ACT seems harder than the SAT, and that is just looking at the Reading/Writing sections. thanks Carolyn
  11. My older daughter took the PSAT and SAT and did very well on them, and didn't bother with the ACT. I have no experience with the ACT either or any idea what scores might be comparable to SAT. I am having my 16 ds, 10th grade, do some test prep out of on ACT book and a PSAT book - I don't at the moment have an unused SAT book around. I wanted to see which test might be better for him, as I have heard that some kids do better on one than the other. I had him do an ACT Reading and he scored a 28. On a PSAT Critical Reading, he scored a 72. Are these roughly comparable, or is the 72 or a 720 on the SAT, better than a 28 on the ACT? On ACT English he scored a 26, and on PSAT Writing a 68. Same questions as above. Or is he just doing better on the PSAT because it is the PSAT instead of the SAT? thanks Carolyn
  12. I have the dvd set that says Geometry 2007 Dvds - there are 9 dvd's, I don't see an ISBN student text - Elementary Geometry for College Students, 4th edition, Alexander & Koeberlein. ISBN 0-618-64525-x, ISBN -13 978-0-618-6425-1 complete solutions manual - ISBN 0547-01093-1, ISBN-13 978-0-547-01093-9 hth Carolyn
  13. Perplexors from Mindware - lots of levels, more puzzles per book. http://www.amazon.com/MindWare-90446W-Perplexors-Level-A/dp/1892069148 Carolyn
  14. I've been there, and it is no fun. Is it a separate teacher that does yoga than the rest of the activities? If it is just her who is being unfriendly, I would keep him in the rest of the class and just take him out for yoga time. That will give him a break from everything as well. I think it's great that he goes to and enjoys the other parts of the program Carolyn
  15. My husband has made this Tyler Florence coconut cake for me for my past several birthdays - it's wonderful http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/white-coconut-cake-recipe/index.html Carolyn
  16. Kolbe has tests and an answer key, along with a syllabus. You do not have to buy the rest of the resources from them to buy the syllabus, etc. Carolyn
  17. Bandaid Brand Blister Bandaids - they are unbelievably helpful and really help with the pain when you are walking on your foot Carolyn
  18. The levels A through E don't really get any harder, but the words/roots in level A are the most commonly used, then B, and so on. I would start with A. Carolyn
  19. These come in different sizes - I have a couple of them http://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-Commercial-Products-2-Inch-Scraper/dp/B0042YHN6E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376491283&sr=8-1&keywords=rubbermaid+heat+resistant+spatula Carolyn
  20. I don't think you are being a jerk at all. Unfortunately, some "help" just is not helpful and it is hard for kids to learn this. Nine is old enough to understand - it's not a 3 year old decorating cookies, and of course you would expect a huge mess. I think you should let her do breakfast one or 2 days a week if she wants to, but go over the menu and ingredients before hand, even separating out the exact amounts with her the night before. don't feel bad Carolyn
  21. Do the online application, and a few days later call, explain you applied online, and ask if they are still hiring. This is the only way my daughter got any interviews. She just got a job this morning :) Carolyn
  22. We went for a kidless 20th anniversary and stayed at the Grand Floridian. Best. Vacation. Ever. The kids dealt with it. They were 17, 13, and 9 and they all love Disney too. Carolyn
  23. I used to take flexeril at night for what is currently diagnosed as fibromyalgia. It helped some, as in I noticed if I missed if for a couple nights in a row, and it helped my sleep a bit. I did not notice any bad side effects. My doc switched me to cymbalta about 2 months ago instead of a muscle relaxant, which is working far better than the flexeril ever did. Carolyn
