  1. Yes I live in Tx, I know but we live in Northeast Texas and it does seem to get cool (not going to say cold but yes for us it is cold). We live in a house with a crawl space underneath and our downstairs is a brick floor, which is great in the summer because it stays cool all summer long. BUT as you can imagine it gets really really cold in the winter, and as hard as we try we can't heat the bottom level of our house. We have closed vents and nothing seems to work, we do the bulk of our schoolwork/ and dh do the bulk of our living down here. So here I sit with it 57 outside and it is freezing downstairs, when I get cold like this my legs start aching. And by the time it is February my legs ache all day and night long. So my question what can I do to keep my legs warm, I have scuff slippers for when I trek outside but I do need some more (preferable cheap with are love $$$ but money broke). Also socks, what kind will keep the heat in but not make me so sweaty? I have several hoodies that I wear all day long and if it gets too cold I will just go upstairs but at night dh stays downstairs to watch the big tv :001_huh: Any suggestions? thanks Lori
  2. Isn't it great :D at least we all know we are crazy and are lucky enough to find each other  Ohh btw my mom told me I am extra crazy I homeschool my 3 and a friends 15yo son... and I volunteered to do it yup I am NUTS
  3. I totally agree with this and have had a friendship that I ended this exact way and one I tried to work with the friend, in the end it too was ended this way. Life is too short and caller ID is your friend :D
  4. Refried Bean Soup An excellent hearty, meatless soup. Rotel tomatoes are a must (do not substitute). 1 large onion - chopped 4 cloves garlic - minced 1 T vegetable oil 4 cans refried beans (16 oz) 2 cans Rotel tomatoes - undrained (10 oz) 2 cans diced tomatoes - undrained (14.5 oz) 1 carton chicken broth (32 oz) Garnishes: crushed tortilla chips shredded cheese sour cream Cook onion and garlic in oil in a dutch oven over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until tender. Add tomatoes, broth and beans, stirring until smooth. Be sure to mash the lumps of refried beans until completely dissolved. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes. **I have also made this in the crockpot, if you have a small family you can half it, it is good.
  5. this is for next year, I am wanting a more of a textbook-y approach complete with questions, projects, and tests. I will be doing this with two for their junior and senior year. I would really need a teacher's guide and all the answers since I really don't have to the time to figure out those things :D Any ideas?
  6. Trust me you are not the only one :D I definetly don't feel like I fit in.... in fact one lady in our homeschooling group last year drove me so nutty (long long story) that I told her she needed to crawl back under her amish rock that she crawled out from under. I am lucky I have one real good friend who is just like me, but after hsing for 11years I am blessed to finally find one :D blessings
  7. I am debating using this after Christmas, when my son will finish up the Keys to Fractions, Decimals and Percents. But I am stuck on whether to move into CLE 7th or 8th... My son is in the 7th grade.. thanks for telling about your experience, it is swaying me towards CLE
  8. She had the list early enough I agree it is her problem, I teach a literature class and kids who don't have the books and therefore can't do the homework get homework notices from me. I have only had one kid I had to do this with, for the sheer reason of not having the book, his mom pitched a fit and went to the board and the board told her to get over it. The stupid thing out of my situation was it was a common book found at most bookstores, libraries and even half price books. I would see if there was a "higher" up in your co-op to handle or explain why it is her problem, then it looks like an impartial telling her it is her problem hth lori
  9. I am agreeing with you, you can read the message on the white house website and I think it is actually a very nice speech, I really didn't want to like it but I think it is very good

  17. you know at that age I honestly would start with the daily grams in your grade level.. if you look at the sample pages http://www.easygrammar.com/dg3.html they have plenty of explanation and it would be a very gentle start. We have in fact mostly used Daily Grams and when we have something we aren't quite understanding I pull out the easy grammar and go over it. Does that help?
  18. I would love too :001_huh: but I charge LOL and the neighbor would have to pay:lol:
  19. history, we have very bad neighbors... cat collecting, they are the only ones in the world unless they need something, loud and brash neighbors... here is my dream letter to them part 2 on my blog... no I do not give it to them but in my dreams she reads it  http://sparkshomeacademy.blogspot.com/2009/07/dear-socially-challenged-duplex-mates.html blessings and remember part of my "therapy" in this situation is to laugh if not I will get mad and or sad
