Good for you, I finally have an appointment for mine next week too. It is helping me to be able to go to college, work part time, and support my 3 kids as I get divorced from an alcoholic husband. I am thankful for all that is given to me without this help I would still be stuck in misery!

I think it does differ for food stamps only there is no limit. I am kinda in ur boat minus the husband I am working part-time (all i could find), going back to school and living with my parents. I have signed up for food stamps because it helps with our expenses. MY parents utility bills have increaded and the fs help with the grocery bill. hth

A little background, I left my husband and am getting divorced and I am living with my parents homeschooling my 3 older kids while I work part time at nights. I am going to go back to school this fall to become a respiratory therapist which I will have to be a full time college student to do. MY kids will be enrolled in a virtual academy and basically will work on their own except for the occassionally help from me, everything will be planned out they will just have to do their thing. My question is how do you do it? How do you organize ur time? we are lucky with live with my parents who will be here with them, although they don't need sitters but I fell better with them having someone around. Any tips? I want to learn speed reading and refresh my study skills. Anything else? Also what kind of backpack do you carry I can only imagine the big books I will have plus a netbook, my back is already hurting.... thanks for the help. i'm a little nervous so many life changes for the good so quickly blessings lori

I am a newly single mom and my kids next year will be in 8th, 10th and 11th grade. I am needing stuff that is easy to no prep and basically can be done on their own. I am working nights and might be going back to school in the fall. I will need suggestions for the following courses: Chemisty (non-science kid), US history, American History, Spanish 1 and 2, and 8th grade science. Also I am on a budget...thanks for your suggestions and if your a single mommy who homeschools and have any words of wisdom I would love to hear it!

Am I obligated to support my estranged dad -?
lori in tx replied to tex-mex's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I love the way you put that... my MIL told us one time that my husband's mental ill sister wanted to put me as gaurdian over her affairs because she is so mental illl (she has bipolar but choices to self medicate with any prescription meds she can find and will make up an illness to get what meds she wants)she can't make her own decisions. I told her that would be a bad idea because I have no problem putting her in a state home, I can't deal with her stupidness and her lack of being honest with her problem and taking the correct and only the correct meds. Funny thing I was not made gaurdian  and neither was dh LOL -

Wow your post really struck a cord with me. My dh comes from a family of 5, and his mom was a single mom. In his family he has a brother who is a multi-millionaire with no children, another brother who just gets by (like us), another brother who owes tens of thousands in credit card debt and a twin mentally ill sister. Years ago we were asked to help support his mom, which at the time was no big deal we were in our "money years" at that time. So we gave her $200 a month along with 2 of the other siblings, and we gave the least amount, never got a thank you and heaven forbid we were late getting it to her all hell would break lose. Well those money years faded and we had to make the decision we could no longer help her out (she was getting social security, multi millionaire brother had bought her a condo, a new Lexus and paid her bills) and she actually had the guts to say "well how the heck am I suppose to go shopping, you need to go and get a job!" I was livid and so was dh, shopping for us is non-existent we go grocery shopping, our kids get hand me downs from friends of my parents and thrift store finds and the occasional gift at christmas (consignment clothes and new from my parents). And during that time she rarely saw the kids, hers and ours... she has since moved away and it has been a relief to us all our relationship is much better. don't think I helped just trying to share that the "entitlement" issue is definetly not just a cultural thing, I am not quite sure what it is with my MIL> blessings and I will pray for you Lori -

argg... pushy WIC people
lori in tx replied to MomtoCandJ's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I agree...I think you need to talk to someone over the program. When we got wic you went to the appointment, they checked their weight and iron level every 6 months. And then every 3 months you needed to attend a nutritional meeting. I breastfeed 2 out of my 3 and I continued to get food while breastfeeding. hth lori -
