  1. I am not new have been a member of the WTM for quite awhile but I am needing some advice on 2 of my kids. My biggest concern is with my 15yo dd she has had a rough go of it for the last year, and she THANKFULLY has a pdoc appointment on Wednesday :001_unsure: shhh don't tell her she doesn't know yet. Her symptoms have me totally baffled, he biggest thing she does is just shows no emotion what so ever. The happens especially when she is in trouble, you can take away something she values greatly (like her tv or her door) and she will just stare at you with not an ounce of emotion and walk off. She has no problem doing whatever she feels is thing to do with no thoughts of how it effects everyone else, which is what she has done for the last year. She just has zilch impulse control and honestly always has been this way. You know hind sight is 20/20 and I probable should have had her looked at years ago, but now with her being a teen the issues have hit me upside the head. Next kid next issue, my almost 13yo got his grades back from our co-op that we go too and he is failing in science. Now science is his favorite class and I am baffled by all of this. I know he is dysgraphic (my oldest son is and was tested by my 13yo never was) but his biggest problem seems to be remembering things he read about and learned days later. His quiz score is less than 50%. I don't know if it is a reading comprehension problem or not. We have always thought his dysgraphia is so much worse than his older brother but I think I having him tested would totally make him come unglued. Any suggestions what to do? It has been so hard to find the quality time to work with him but I know I need to do that...I am all :bigear: Thanks so much!

  3. to distance themselves from you? We have just started this journey with our 15yo dd and already I feel like I have the plague or something... I mean I know my dd is in not good shape but I mean they are dropping like flies thanks
  4. Julie is it planned out for you? like does it tell you what to do from day to day?
  5. I have posted some pictures from our Fall hike.... it was a great day after being in the 60's and rainy for weeks, it was in the 70's and not rainy but a little cloudy...
  6. We also live right at poverty but only because dh's work on a small hourly plus commission and the way the economy is we are strapped for $$ right now. Things have gotten a lot better and because of assistance we have insurance for our kids and we do get food stamps which has enabled us to almost catch up with bills. WE have had rich times and poor times, because of poor investments and a Madiff type thing we lost everything. We drive a 10 year old car, and only have one. We get hand-me down clothes for our kids (and we get bunches and bunches enough to share). We are very happy and kids have learned how to make meals from scratch, enjoy only getting a small amount of Christmas presents and most of all enjoy when dad is home because he works 6 days a week to provide for us. We decided when we had kids to homeschool and that we would have to do with what we had, I don't feel bad about having assistance. We paid for it when we had the rich years, I am VERY VERY thankful to have it so I can get milk every week for my growoing kids :) The best part is having a loving family! blessings lori
  7. I haven't had time to do a week in review in a long time but I did blog about an average day... link in my siggy
  8. http://sparkshomeacademy.blogspot.com/2009/10/day-in-life-of-sparks-classical-academy.html I just wrote about a typical day for us, my kids work on their own quite a bit and our day seems to be very different from most because we are a family with sleep issues
  9. I have one... today is of my oldest son and his antics... no one was harmed in the producation on this photo.
  10. this has been our situation too.. we turn up the heat and it does no good except for to heat the boys out of their room, they have the only warm room in the house and closing vents does not work
  11. Did she buy the whole set for each subject? and did he keep track of his self-test and the booklet test?
  12. But I don't want to win :glare: That means I am queen psycho attraction
  13. YUP me too... we use to have people that only came to our house to have their domestic abuse sessions. So we stopped answering the door, they would go around and look in the window, so we would close the windows. Now mind you I had 2 babies (1yo and a newborn) they would sit on our porch and wait for us to come home, we finally got sick of being a prisoner in our home (we had no phone) and snuck out the back and called the cops. Didn't stop them, it finally got so bad we moved in the middle of the night!
  14. We have the same problem... we have brick floors and while they are nice there is a crawl space under the house (where the neighbors feral cats live :001_huh:) and it traps a lot of cold air in the winter time and the downstairs is most of the time colder than outside
  15. HAHAHAHA I almost got my degree in counseling but I learned one very important fact: I DON'T LIKE THE PSYCHO PEOPLE
  16. I like your hair... I don't think that is your "weirdo" magnet... OHHh and by the way my famiy is a psycho magnet... bring me your crazy, non-medicated people because they LOVE US! LOVE US
  17. I totally understand what you are saying with my "son" he has to have an individual per day assignment sheet where my kids have one for the week. But once he is engaged in something he is into it, but I think it is because I do let him do what he needs to do to keep focus. Whether it is beating a pencil, listening to his Ipod (this work with some kids), and giving him rewards (yup starbusts are his best friend). But I have also learned with him there are days he is just not there and I get what HAS to be done and blow the rest off until the next day.
  18. ((((hugs to your family )))) I don't have an ADHD but I homeschool a ADD kid for a family friend, and I can tell you the days he does not have his patch on I can normally tell in about 20 sec. My "son" (yes I call him that his mom has nothing to do with him and he calls me mom :) ) is older and almost 16y but I can tell you he has to have meds. I would tell you if you don't like what the doc is telling you I would not think twice about getting a second opinion. If you don't like what he is tell you I think you should go and get a second opinion... I do know there is now secret formula for getting the meds right but if it upsetting him so much I would go and take him to someone who will listen to your sons issues. Because once they get to be older it is going to be harder and harder to keep on it, ykim?
  19. I am getting ready to read the Unlikely Disciple I have had it on reserve for about 8 weeks
