  1. IMO, CLE is enough. My 7th grader used CLE math through 6th grade and then tested into honors pre-algebra for middle school (he's now in public school). We didn't supplement with any other programs at all.
  2. I'm not sure what grade you're looking for, but you may want to check out Teaching Textbooks. I find it very gentle.
  3. I personally know two families who have homeschooled while having their kids involved on some level in the local public school. One friend currently has her high school aged son in athletics at the public high school. I can't recall what the other family was involved in, but I think it was music in elementary school. So I would say it is possible, but it may come down to how easy to work with your local school chooses to be.
  4. Thanks. Your comments confirmed our thoughts. This was from a paper DH had written. When his professor commented on it, she said "it" should have been plural. We didn't see it that way. We saw "it" referring to back to personal information. And yes, he could have written a better sentence to begin with. :)
  5. Can I get some input on the sentence below in green? Would you say this is correct or not? More specifically, should the "it" be changed to "they" to refer to plural items (name, date of birth or other sensitive information) or is it correct in that the "it" refers to "information"? DH and I are discussing it and need outside input. Personal information such as name, date of birth or other sensitive information should be removed but it is not. Thanks Debbie
  6. Years back we noticed that weddings at nice hotels always had delicious coffee, so we asked what they served, and the answer was almost always Farmer Brothers. So that's our brand - we love it. We have only been able to find it at Stater Bros.
  7. Thanks! I can't believe it's already time to do that again.
  8. Great info! Thanks! Do you know of any planner apps for PC/ipod Touch, where I could assign the work on the PC and sync it with my kids' iPod Touches?
  9. I'm not a huge fan of video games, but for multiplication facts, Timez Attack has been a lifesaver.
  10. I live in Southern California, so unfortunately I'm familiar with earthquakes. If it's a sizable quake, I absolutely hear them first if I'm inside. The house creaks and rumbles, then I feel the movement - it builds as it comes. For smaller quakes, sometimes it's just a "whoosh" as the house sways, and sometimes not much noise at all. But all the noise is house and objects moving, not the earth. The quakes I've felt outside or in a car have had no noise with them at all. Just motion.
  11. Our favorite, hands down, is Rockin' the Standards.
  12. Awesome! My son did Fast Forword in the Spring of 2010. It was worth every single penny we spent - we've seen tremendous results.
  13. Biola University, but I couldn't tell you if a full ride is possible. You could also look at APU & Point Loma. California weather is wonderful.
  14. I've though about this a lot. My goal is for DS#1 to finish through CLE Math 810 by this time next year, which will be the beginning of 8th grade. I know CLE is coming out with their own Algebra curriculum, but at this point I'm leaning more towards Math Relief for Algebra next year.
  15. Have you viewed her videos on YouTube? (http://www.youtube.com/user/DianneCraft). She talks a lot about right and left brain integration, nutrition and exercises to strengthen that integration, as well as teaching/learning techniques to help kids who are not "left-brained". I have not purchased any of her curricula, but I have some of her manuals and videos, and have incorporated some of her ideas and exercises into our routine in the past. I came across her website when I was researching auditory processing disorder. Whether or not she address ADD/ADHD I couldn't tell you. Perhaps there was info about it, but it didn't catch my eye since it wasn't an issue for us. BTW, if you are a member of HSLDA, she is one of the special needs representatives, and if you call them, you may end up speaking to her directly. I did when I called in a few years ago.
  16. Potato cannons, water rockets (similar to this one ), etc. My son has more fun with the toys he's made than any toy he's bought in a store.
  17. We are starting on Monday. We'll ease into it for one week and then be up and running full steam by the second week.
  18. Krazzymommy (Monica) and I are sisters-in-law. So we've met IRL :) .
  19. My older son did Little League & JUSA soccer for quite a few years. He's not a lover of sports, so he's not involved any more and has moved on to other things that interest him. My younger son is very athletic, and is in sports almost year-round. This past year he did soccer & baseball in the fall, basketball in the winter, and football and baseball in the spring. Football is already underway for the fall, and baseball will begin practicing in the next couple of weeks. We're already looking down the road to figure out if he can continue to be homeschooled and play competitive sports through high school.
  20. Rangefinder Magazine is free. But I'd have to agree - Understanding Exposure is your best bet to learn the basics of photography. Better Photo also has some online courses that you may find useful.
