  1. I have no clue about the MUS skip counting songs so I can't comment on them, but just last week I found Rockin' the Standards and my 9 year old LOVES it! I downloaded the whole math album from iTunes.
  2. Thanks Mariann - and I don't think your answer was snarky at all. I gave my son a haircut the day after we found out about the kids sharing helmets, and I didn't see anything, but I wasn't doing a real thorough checking, either. I think I'll look a little more closely to make sure I'm not missing anything.
  3. I've never had to deal with lice before, but two players on my son's baseball team just had it (a brother and sister). They came back to the team after 3 weeks of being gone, and proceeded to use other kids' helmets. One mom was very concerned, asked if they had a Dr.'s release to go back to school, threw out her son's helmet and gear bag, and treated him that night "just in case". My DH (the coach) asked the mom to bring the Dr's note so we'd have record of it in case there was any concern or questions asked. A week later she gave us a note from the Dr. dated 5 days after her kids were back in the dugout. All that to ask my two questions - are lice really so tiny that you could have them and not know it? Would you notice them in passing if you were combing through your child's hair?
  4. My boys LOVE Head Rush! It's pretty much the only TV program they watch. It comes on once a day here. :)
  5. Startwrite has a HWOT font. It's a great program.
  6. When I was looking for help with my younger son, I found very little of anything, including advice, on how to get him the help he needed. I honestly didn't even know what kind of person to look for to ask questions. I tried our pediatrician, but he was useless. HSLDA has some helpful info, but not enough. I found a local woman who was pro-homeschool and did testing, so we got him in to see her. We found out his issue was his working memory (I hadn't even heard of that before). I had thought that his issue was auditory processing. We finally ended up spending hefty sum of money to get him the help he needed through a speech and language pathologist. He spent an intensive 7 weeks doing Fast Forward last spring. God provided the funds when we needed it, and we have zero regrets about putting him through the program. Now I have a son who is teachable. I didn't have that before. Getting the right kind of help is worth every penny if there's any way you can do it. I would say a SPL is the best way to go. Personally, we felt that if there was something that would help him, we had to do it. I would have sold a car, a camera (I have some expensive gear) or whatever I had to just to get him help. And taking him to the SPL every.single.day was a HUGE inconvenience, but worth it.
  7. Yesterday we got in our car after my son's baseball game and the thermometer was reading 109 F outside. I think I felt hotter on that drive home than I've ever felt in my life - and we had the AC cranking. Thankfully today we can stay inside with the AC all day. I'm looking forward to cooler weather. Not sure when that will come around, though.
  8. We've really loved Apologia more than anything else we've tried.
  9. bb gun or pellet gun erector set Jonathan Park cds cap gun model rocket set - Oh - I just realized this is an older post.
  10. 1. What do you blog about? Homeschooling, family, activities, food, books, whatever catches my attention 2. Who reads it? Hardly anyone, lol. I do it more for myself. I really haven't made any attempts to publicize it. (but it is linked below) 3. Is it worth your time? Yes, because to me it's like a journal. I love looking back and seeing what we did. My old brain forgets too easily. 4. Why do you blog? See answer to #3. If my family chose to become regular readers, it would be even better. We're separated across states and don't get to see nearly enough of each other.
  11. Yup - around our house it's the chemicals that were the problem. IMO, artificial food dyes should be outlawed. We've eliminated all artificial dyes + some preservatives from the kids' diet, and the change is unbelievable. A regular 'ol 11 year old can be difficult. An 11 year old on "drugs" (as we refer to the dyes and chemicals) is impossible to live with. It's not an easy change to make, but it's so worth it.
  12. I do everything the same, except I use almond milk instead of soy. Delicious either way. :001_smile:
  13. I personally have no idea, but the other day I was looking at The Backyard Homestead on Amazon, and it had all kinds of information about cows. If you preview the book, it has a huge amount of pages viewable.

  15. I bought one the other day at my local Sam's club. Here's the link. I love it!! Debbie
  16. 9 - 9 If it's a close friend, I'll text to see if it's ok to call outside those hours. They can answer or ignore my text if it's not a good time to talk.
  17. We went through this exact same scenario last year. We were both on Verizon, and DH's employer switched to ATT. My contract with Verizon had expired so I was free to choose what service I wanted. All the big carriers were expensive, and ATT doesn't have the best reputation around here. So I opted to go with something I had never heard of before - Straight Talk. The phones are only available through Walmart. It's basically a Tracfone using Verizon's signal. It's really a pre-pay phone, but I'm signed up with auto pay, so every month my CC is charged $30 and for that I get 1000 minutes of talk, 1000 txt messages, and some internet access. The internet access is feeble at best, but in a pinch I can check my gmail account. The phone service is just as good as Verizon, since it's using their signal. Debbie
  18. Hi Monica, I never post here, and rarely even lurk, but I feel like I have to post in response to your concerns. Your little viking played wonderfully with my boys in December. Yes, shy at first, but he warmed up pretty quickly. Right now I would listen to your DH and wait on the testing. He (your dh) has always been very shy - I don't see that as a bad thing. You said he sees himself in your ds, and I totally believe it. I would never tell you to ignore your instinct, but I would definitely wait for now. I only get to see the little guy on occasion, but he's never struck me as "off" in any way, shape or form. You are doing an INCREDIBLE job with both your kids. They are so fortunate to have such wonderful, loving parents. Keep doing everything you're doing!! Debbie (SIL to Krazzymommy) :)
