  1. I just save that last page as a pdf and put it in my "orders" file. :)
  2. Wow. One of life's mysteries revealed. Thank you!
  3. Plain yogurt is much lower in carbs than pre-sweetened. If you get really good plain yogurt, it just doesn't need to be sweetened. And homemade tastes REALLY REALLY good. :)
  4. ??? Two of my kids just got 1 or 2 cavities filled (ages 5 & 6), and it took all of 10-15 minutes. DS6 who HATES any kind of medical procedure and is very sensitive had no problem at all. Is that an unusual experience???????
  5. My kids were the same age, more or less. I just hugged them and said that we were all feeling really sad because the baby in my tummy wasn't going to grow any more. It just wasn't meant to be. I would definitely tell them the truth. They can surely handle it. The only thing I would add is maybe to say that "we" rather than "you" are disappointed. You are all sharing the same feelings and sadness. Oh, so sad, and I can so empathize with what you're going through. :grouphug:
  6. I had to laugh out loud after reading this. Snow. And then it snowed. There was more snow. It was cold. It snowed again. Oh, the drama... (But I DO love the book! I was just trying to imagine it "dramatized!")
  7. He usually just drinks water, soy milk, or milk. 2x/month we have orange juice with breakfast night. Friday night and Saturday afternoon he has about 4 ounces of grape juice. :)
  8. Thank you all so much (so far)! I'm writing all of these ideas down for our upcoming appointments. :)
  9. For a year, I've been trying to puzzle out DD6's symptoms. Just wondering if anyone has BTDT with this! Here's what he experiences: knee pain hot flashes (very transitory; usually at night, sometimes during the day) low energy (we used to do 2-3 mile hikes with no problem; now he CRIES if has to walk more than 1/2 mile; this is just not like him) frequent stomachaches (not connected to any particular food or event) frequent headaches occasional diarrhea (but it's been a while) liquids make his tummy hurt (hot or cold; sweet or not) no weight gain in 6 months; has dropped from 50th percentile (I think that was his highest) to 12th for weight; 50th to 24th for height nose is usually stuffed up, but not drippy sometimes he says his eyes hurt very low appetite he's pretty pale He's just not a complainer. The symptoms were pretty active a year ago, then mostly subsided except for stomachaches and headaches (which came irregularly). Now they're back chronically, and I think it's a little odd that it's almost exactly a year later (something seasonal??). He's cheerful and happy and does great with his learning. He saw the gastroenterologist a year ago. No H. Pylori. We're meeting again next week to see about getting him scoped. Blood work seemed okay. Tested for giardia (we had a round of it a few years ago). Tested negative (but it's not uncommon to have false negatives). A doctor friend suggested he might be anemic, so I'm going to check if that was already tested or not. He's going to have allergy testing this week to make sure I can eliminate that before having him scoped. Possibilities I've thought of: anemia (caused by not eating enough), Crohn's disease, IBS, food allergy... Any other suggestions for things to look into??? I wish I knew what was dragging him down. :( Thanks so much!!
  10. So sorry for your loss. I think the time spent becoming closer to you and your children will be far more valuable to her than attending school. She probably needs that closeness and support more than anything.
  11. We do: 30 minutes, torah stories 30 minutes, science or history 30-45 minutes, whatever readaloud book we're doing
  12. With 4 kids that will be cycling through MM, it was clearly a better deal for me get the e-book!
  13. Maybe she had just seen the most fantastic coat sale of the year inside?? :001_huh:
  14. :iagree: Exercise got rid of 90% of DH's migraines!! If he does a hard, sweaty 40 minutes daily without fail he won't get a headache. Miss a day, and he starts to get pre-migraine symptoms. He's actually thankful this is the best way to avoid them - he's in fantastic shape! The other thing he has to do is eat every 2 hours. A little carb, a little protein, a little fat (higher serving amt of carb than protein). Then small main meals since he snacks so often.
  15. Right now DS6 does: 90 minutes - davening (prayers), torah stories, songs, and Jewish law 30 minutes - math 60 minutes - reading, writing, Explode the Code 20 minutes - Hebrew Chemistry experiments, art projects, history map work, and recorder lessons as we fit them in. Science & history are our bedtime stories. On Fridays we only do Jewish studies, so the first and last things listed above. We school year-round too. I'm with you. I really dislike it whenever we have a day that is all crammed in. Having the empty spaces and playtime is really important!
  16. I would have no problem with someone asking permission (I might say yes; I might say no), but I would definitely have a problem if they did it without permission!
  17. We like using Singapore for K, then switching to MM. It's worked great for 3 out of 4! #4 coming up soon... :)
  18. We have many Zenni glasses in the house. The only pair that didn't work out so well were my bifocals. They're just not quite adjusted right (the field of vision for the bifocals seems rather narrow!), but I haven't done anything about it yet.
  19. Mine doesn't have "add profile" either. :( I was really excited for a minute!!! I would love to have separate queues!
  20. I've given up. If I have to get up early, it ruins my whole day. I can stay up until 3, get up at 8 (9?) and I'm fine. But if I go to bed at 10 and get up at 6, I'm toast. :)
  21. We love the combination! One DD wasn't up for all the writing in ETC so she didn't do that, but the others are doing it very happily.
  22. All of my kids do their own laundry (mostly). Each kid has their own day, Mon-Thurs. After breakfast, laundry goes in. After lunch, it goes to the drier. After dinner, they put it away. Each of them has their own laundry bin in their room. I got tall lightweight folding square ones that take up less space. One of DD5's jobs is to help DS4 do his laundry. Works great, and everything is pre-sorted so it's easy to do. I usually do grownup and household laundry over the weekend. I also have all of them pull their whites and put them in a garbage can next to the washing machine. I do those too. It's been working *great* for us for several months now, and no one really complains about it at all.
