  1. Ridden a city bus/used public transportation.
  2. Similar to White Castle. Small, square burgers that you either love or hate. I love them, but don't live in the south anymore.
  3. I do whatever requires the most uninterrupted focus for me. So on your list, that'd be the goal setting. Have fun!
  4. Yeah, we get that. It's become a source of amusement for me, though, when he comes home and tells me he got his flu shot :D. He's an engineer, so the yearly repeat of something that makes him miserable is out of character for the logical way he normally behaves.
  5. Maybe. The Year of the Swine Flu we all got really sick on a road trip. That was fun, but nothing was confirmed. Dh gets the shot, but I don't and I do not have the boys get it. Every year, dh gets sick after the shot and says he'll never get it again, but by the time it's pushed again he ends up with one.
  6. What about breakfast-y foods? Bacon egg and cheese biscuits (Pillsbury biscuits from the freezer section are good) Pancakes made with protein powder Breakfast burritos
  7. Yes, there is a revised edition and that's the one Jim Weiss uses. The first edition was read by Barbara Alan Johnson.
  8. I'm probably in the zero regulation camp. I'm fine with my state's regulations, though I find them pointless and stupid. Send in a Notice of Intent to any district in the state, keep attendance records no one is ever able to ask for, and test (must get greater than 12%) with a nationally normed test in odd years starting in 3rd grade or get an evaluator to asses progress and send results to the district you chose that year. I don't think regulations would actually help. I'm of the thought that those who have nefarious intent will succeed even with regulations in place, so the regulations just create hoops for those who comply. I'm also pretty fond of limited government, and I don't really like the assumption that I'm guilty of something (which regulations tend to assume--they make me prove my innocence) just because I choose to do something differently (aka homeschool) in my family.
  9. I clean my ears daily, as does my dh and at least one of my sons. That's our biggest use. I use them occasionally to clean up a makeup smudge, or other random uses, like cleaning or crafting or repairing something.
  10. One of mine has broken both his dominant hand and arm on separate occasions. He had short arm casts for both, and after a couple days he was able to do most things. I did cancel a writing intensive I had planned and he got out of a piano recital. I will tell you to order cast covers from Amazon for the shower. We made due with duct tape and garbage bags for the first 3 broken bones, but for the last one I got the covers and they were incredible.
  11. I am so sorry. Praying for a positive outcome and peace while you wait. How horrible.
  12. I don't know, but I do know if your son puts them in his pocket, puts his pants in the laundry, and you wash and dry his pants, even that will not kill them.
  13. I like your ad hominem attacks. They really further your case and make you seem well reasoned. And, yes, I'd guess I'm opposed to many more government regulations than you are, but that's neither here nor there. And this has relevance, why? I'm not a day care. I'm my children's home. It's where they sleep, eat, and learn. Guess what? It's where children who school elsewhere eat, sleep, and learn. You'd have to institute your policy and regulations to every single home where there are children. This is not a home schooling issue, like it or not.
  14. This is ridiculous. The guidelines have worked so well in preventing all day care deaths, and foster care deaths, and adoption deaths. And it's prevented all day care neglect and abuse, and foster care neglect and abuse, and adoption neglect and abuse. To use your language, why the hell would you take one broken system and apply it somewhere else?
  15. I would asses where you'd like them to be when you start next year (especially since you'll have another high schooler), and work backward from there. I wouldn't worry about doing all the subjects or doing this semester traditionally, but I'd use it to shore up reading and writing and thinking skills if needed. And I'd read a lot and play games and get into a routine.
  16. Oh, my feet are hot just thinking about it. Your poor mother. These were listed as some of the best for hot weather hiking. I wonder if any of the cooling/vented socks work?
  17. When we were gluten free, I used Pamela's mix in our breadmaker.
  18. The book "What Smart Students Know" is good. Great Courses also has "Superstar Student", and it's good, too.
  19. I am so sorry. How long do you have to wait? Is there a possibility that this decision could be the end of this horrid chapter?
  20. I'm glad you asked. I'd been wondering the exact same things.
  21. We have a 10.5 pound lop that we got last fall. Oh. My. Goodness. When we adopted her, we noticed she shed. It was a normal amount of shedding, not bad at all (relatively speaking; we are used to shedding because of our American Eskimo dog). In December, she started an insane molt. It started on her head and moved down her back. The amount of fur was unbelievable. I ended up googling, and they can do this four times a year, with it being really bad twice a year. She's almost done, thankfully. She's got a bit near her bottom she needs to get rid of.
  22. Does it have xylitol? Some sweeteners are deadly to dogs, even in tiny amounts, so check the sweeteners and Google.
