  1. My dd fences foil and practices with 2 different clubs. One is a homeschool club that meets twice a week, and is dry fencing only. She likes the social aspect and they do fight in tournaments (which are electrically scored). She and my dh also go once a week to practice with a college team and to get private lessons with the coach. My dh fenced in college so he can coach dd at each tournament. Most of the time, the team captains are the ones who do the coaching because the homeschool coach is directing bouts. Everyone in my family fences now, my ds just started, so I'm going to have to learn the sport.
  2. :grouphug: Praying for you and your brother. I know what you are going through. My brother had his first heart attack at 41, his second at 43, and his third at 45, which resulted in a quadruple bypass. I live 1000 miles away, but was able to make the trip to be with him when he had his 1st and the last one. He finally learned that he must live a healthy lifestyle and keep taking his medications. He's doing great now!
  3. I made the transition from PC to the MacBook Pro last month and I couldn't be happier. I already had an iPhone and iPad, so I thought why not completely go over to the "dark side" My dh works as a software architect and uses only PCs and droids (tablet & phone). He informed me that he would not offer technical support for Apple products. I have always used a mouse with my pc laptops, but have found the trackpad for the MacBook to be easy to learn. I love not having to drag a mouse around with my laptop. I purchased my MacBook at the Apple store and used the educational discount. I got my refurbished iPad through the online store last Christmas and have had no problems with it. Have fun shopping!
  4. Praying for you and your family. I'm sorry for your loss. :grouphug::grouphug:
  5. We sometimes say the Rosary in the car. It takes us about 20 minutes to get anywhere so it's the perfect time.
  6. :iagree: We used benadryl with our shepherd mix and it worked like a charm!
  7. I have that same problem with my wedding ring. The only thing that helped was to take it off when washing dishes and to not wear it at night. I've been doing that for several years and haven't had any problems since.
  8. We felt it here in Greensboro, NC. My ds was freaked out.
  9. My negative just turned 13. A positive came up after I was 10 days late and throwing up. :grouphug:
  10. Huge KC Chiefs fan, but am living in the land of the Carolina Panthers. I don't get to see many Chiefs games so I get my fix with the Panthers. When we first moved to NC in 2000, I was shocked to learn that they didn't televise Chiefs games in this part of the country. If I had known that, I might not have agreed to move. I'm drooling over the Direct TV promo for the free NFL package. I want it, but dh won't switch. He likes football, but would rather watch NASCAR on Sunday afternoons. My kids hate football season because I get the big TV on Sundays and Monday nights. And they don't like it when I "cheer". I have been known to get a little loud.:D Now off to find a Chiefs avatar!
  11. My ds(11) went to his first Boy Scout camp a few weeks ago. Family Night was on Thursday and the boys were to come home on Saturday morning. During Family Night, he kept talking about how much fun he was having and what he was learning. By the end of the night, he was in tears and wanted to come home. We let him know that was not an option and that he could finish out the last day and a half. I also told him that when he went back to the shelter with the rest of the scouts, that he couldn't cry in front of them and if he couldn't stop the tears, he should go straight to his tent and just go to bed. I didn't want to give the older scouts any reason to tease him. It broke my heart to have to tell him this, but I thought it would be a good lesson to learn. I later learned that most of the first years were homesick and they were able to help each other through that night. When he came home on Saturday, he told us he was ready to go back for another week. He seemed proud of himself that he was able to handle the uncomfortable feelings of homesickness and work through them. I think he gained a little bit of confidence that week. :001_smile:
  12. I use a CPAP but my mask just covers my nose. It's quite comfortable and I'm able to sleep in any position. The first couple nights were a little uncomfortable, so I took a muscle relaxer to help me sleep. After that, I got used to the feeling on my face and now have no trouble falling asleep. When I was being fitted for the mask, the tech said that since I wasn't a "mouth breather" I could use the nose piece. So your dh might be stuck with the full face mask. I would encourage your dh to keep trying. I can't believe how much better I feel since I started using the CPAP.
  13. DH has tomorrow off, so we are going in the afternoon. I can't wait to see it, but I don't like crowds and I want to be able to hear. DD just finished watching the Half-Blood Prince, so she is ready.
  14. We had heard good things about a Christian School that was close to where we were moving to. They just happened to use a classical model and after researching it, I decided that was the way to go. After four years, we could no longer afford the tuition, so I started looking into homeschooling and another mom told me about TWTM. I was already sold on the classical method, and after reading TWTM and a year of ps for both kids, I was convinced that I could homeschool. We haven't looked back.
  15. I just saw this thread. Can I come? I'm just outside of Greensboro and would love to meet everyone!
  16. I'd love to join a Catholic online/email Bible Study, so count me in too!
  17. Here's mine: I can't believe my dh agreed to these colors when we built the house over 5 years ago, but now I'm ready for a change.
  18. Our church was built in the 1980s and doesn't look like a Catholic Church at all. It is a semi-circle design and there aren't even any kneelers!!!! There are some major building issues that need to be addressed so our current priest hired some well known architects to come up with plans to either remodel the current church or to rebuild. The town hall meeting to talk about these ideas did not go over well. Most of what was said by the parishoners was that they like the building as it is and there is no need to change it. They basically told those of us who liked the new ideas that there were plenty of other parishes in town that had the more traditional sanctuaries, so we should just go to them. I guess we'll have to deal with a leaky roof, thred bare carpeting, pews falling apart, outdated kitchen, bad lighting, even worse sound, and no kneelers for awhile longer. When I decided to convert over a year ago, I chose this parish because it was the closeset to my home. I didn't yet realize that Catholic parishes have many different flavors. I would have chosen a much more traditional parish. Oh well, hindsight beign 20/20 and all. My children weren't happy when we pulled them out of the Southern Baptist church we were attending to become Catholic, so I won't pull them out of this parish after they have made friends. We'll just go with the flow and remember that Christ is still in the tabernacle!
