  1. I know I should drop Easy Grammar. But other than that workwise am I ok? I really think the issue is more of an attitude problem, but before I try to figure out how to deal with that I wanted to be sure I wasn't way off base elsewhere. I only know one other family that does things beyond CC. While I love CC I don't feel it's a complete curriculum for the upper elementary.
  2. I do everything every day because when I rotated out subjects he had a hard time remembering what he was supposed to do (even though there is a list for him). He really does better (less complaining) when he does everything every day. Science and Learning adventures are his favorite subjects. Science he does on small section a day and usually asks to do more. I haven't added anything from last year. The time difference is he just prefers to sit and do nothing than complete his work. This is always my first month of school. I know I should get rid of Easy Grammar, but for some reason I can't let myself do it.
  3. I see it as two? I know Essentials is a full grammar program, but I'm having a hard time believing they can get everything (and retain it) in 24 weeks. I do daily grams for the repetition. Last year I didn't do Easy Grammar when CC was meeting, I had him do it over the summer. He complained all summer so I added it back into our rotation. Really it should only take 10-15 minutes to do daily grams and easy grammar if he would just do it.
  4. Oh yea that might be important. He's 10. 5th grade.
  5. So I have resigned that we will never be one of those families done by noon. My son just won't allow it (drags his heels), but after going to my Classical Conversations orientation I'm wondering if we are doing too much. He is 10 years old and 5th grade. Here is our schedule. CC memory work - Foundations CC Grammar & Writing - Essentials Learning Adventures (literature & history only) - this is my sons favorite part of the day, he would do this all day if I let him. History Lapbook (not always, we have like 3-4 main ones thru the year and a mini state one for each state we cover) Math Mammoth Apologia Science w/AJLT lap book (loves this as well) Daily Grams Easy Grammar (I know this is probably overkill with CC, but it should only take 10 minutes max, if he were to just do it) Sequential Spelling Last year he would work from 9-2 or 3 with an hour for lunch. We are still getting in the groove this year so I can't say how long it will take (we are still at the 8-6 stage right now and CC Hasnt started).
  6. Ooh. Thanks! I thought it was IgE but I didn't want to say te wrong thing.
  7. Jeannie fullbrights site says early 2013. I'm so excited. My son would love Chemistry. http://jeanniefulbright.com//chemistry-and-physics-1/
  8. We do a lot of protien shakes. Almond milk, protien power, fruit(s) of choice.
  9. Delayed allergies can occur up to 3+ days later. My daughter has delayed allergies to Wheat (not gluten), Dairy, Pecans, Sesame and Cranberry. The normal pin prick allergy test will not show delayed allergies. There are two types of allergens ige and igg. I can never remember which is which. The delayed allergies can only be test by a blood test. My daughter will react anywhere from 2 hours to days later.
  10. Around here they list the house as "pending, backup offers wanted" or something like that. They keep showing the house as though it's not sold. You cannot bump the current offer for another contigent offer, but you can for a noncontingent.
  11. Wow! I didn't realize this wasn't common. I'm just bummed that I didn't learn about it until this year!
  12. I debated getting a kindle. I had the iPad. When the Kindle touch came out I ordered 5 (one for every reading member in my family and my mom). I was in love with it instantly. I read so much more than I did before (and I read a lot before). The kindle is so small I can throw it in my purse and if something happens I'm not too upset as it's only $100. I was always hesitant to take my iPad because it's $$$, and it's heavy, plus it's difficult to read outside.
  13. I printed mine for free at the library. I can get 75 b&w or 25 color copies per week per card. I have three cards so I can print 75 color copies a week. Took a few weeks but can't beat the price.
  14. I don't use BJU so I can't help there, but I just wanted to say I know very gifted middle school boys who would still love cartoony. If they are enjoying it and it's working, what does it matter what it looks like? I also have to echo what people have said about 5/4. I hated 5/4, my daughter hated 5/4, and I know a lot of die hard Saxon people who hate 5/4 and either switch of tough it out, complaining all the way.
  15. I just started using it. I hesitated awhile because I was worried about things tasting like coconut. You can't even taste the coconut. I use it in everything now. My daughter can't have butter and heat damages olive oil so you shouldn't cook with it.
  16. Hearing is measured is db. The lower the # the better you hear. Normal for children is 10 or lower, adults 15 or lower. Our public school deems anything below 20 as normal and you won't get accommodations.
  17. I wouldn't expect a child to be independent before 8 or 9 at the absolute earliest. My son 9 before I could leave for 5 minutes to change laundry. Now at 10 I can do 10-15 minutes, if I'm lucky.
  18. When I used Saxon, the only time we did the B side was if my son didn't understand and needed more practice. You could also use them as refreshers in the summer. There is no way I'd have a K & 1st doing both sides.
  19. We started with the notebook from Apologia for Anatomy. My son hated them. They were the same format every week. Boring. 1/2 way thru we switched to the lap books from AJTL. It was awesome. My son loved it! This year we are doing Botony & Astronomy. I've already bought the lapbooks. AJTL has them really cheap right now. I can remember for how much longer, maybe Aug 1st?
  20. With 4 kids you would get burried alive in all the worksheets. I did K12 for a year and a couple of months. I only had one kid and the paper was crazy!
  21. I use MM and love it, but I do accelerate. I give him the end of unit test before we do the unit. I depending on how he does I skip the unit or just do the parts he got wrong. We will be starting MM 5 in the fall.
  22. I wouldn't do anything formal for K. For my little guy I'm going to use Magic Schoolbus books & videos. For History we will do STOW on audio. We listen to all 4 volumes thru the year.
  23. Last year I got the binders & page protectors on really cheap sale @ Staples.
