  1. Just a thought - you may want to have her keep them on until you can pay for further treatment. She will need a retainer immediately after getting the braces off, or her teeth will shift significantly. It would be a shame to negate the benefit of her braces. I would think the braces would keep them in place until you can get caught up.

  4. We go to Outer Banks, specifically Corolla, in the Whalehead division. The beaches are beautiful, and if you go just a bit off peak, you don't have to fight the crowds! We go every year during the second week of May, and it is just amazing. Let me know if you want more info - we've gone for 5 years straight.
  5. When I taught CW Aesop A in a co-op, I gave them the assignment to write their own fable AFTER we had gone through the whole book. They had guidelines that would ensure they incorporated the skills learned that year (such as varying utterances, synonym substitution, creating dialogue, etc.). It turned out to be a fun reward for them, as they read their papers aloud and were praised for demonstrating their knowledge of CW skills. I would not do this at the beginning of the class, however. What would be the point (except to have fun, I suppose)? I am not following the teacher's reasoning on this one. Do you have her syllabus? Maybe she plans to get on the "traditional" track after this assignment? I would find out before pulling them.
  6. We go every six months, except for my son in grad school who goes when he can fit it in.
  7. My son lives in Edmonton, Alberta (CA) for graduate school, and we live in New York. It is time to book his ticket for Christmas, but the fares are all over the place, from $857-$1100+ He is pretty flexible with dates. It would be wonderful if there was a way to punch in the possible range of dates of arrival and departure and let the computer do the work of find the lowest fare for those time periods. Right now, all I can do is put specific dates in. It's like a crap shoot! Okay, now let's try this combination, now this one...it's getting old, and I'm never sure what's a good deal or if there would be a better one if I changed one of the dates by just one day. Of course, I am dreaming of a "cheap" fare!:tongue_smilie: Does anyone know if there is a website that does this? I would be so grateful. Thank you!
  8. I want to put in a plug for the diaphragm. (Couldn't resist!) Seriously, it is easy to use and completely hormone free. The only problem with a diaphragm is that you have to insert it, which interrupts things. This isn't that big of a deal, though. The link below says it is 94% effective when used correctly and every single time. I have read 97% in other places. It is also fairly inexpensive, as all you have to purchase is the spermicidal jelly. Much to dh's dismay, a tube lasts us a while. http://www.familyplanning.org/pdf/Facts_About_Diaphragms.pdf
  9. Oh, how I wish Aldi was open right now!! Thanks for the reviews.:001_smile:
  10. Has anyone tried the Aldi version of Nutella? What do you think? I almost bought it today but decided to ask for opinions first.
  11. I don't like it when the table setter makes the decision whether or not I will use a utensil! I am kind of weird and use utensils when and where others may not. For example, when we order pizza, I like to eat some of mine with a fork until it cools, whereas others pick it up and just use extra napkins. When we ate stir fry last week, everyone used their forks, but I partially used a spoon because the veggies were slipping off the fork. You get the idea. So, our rule is that nobody is to assume what others will use at the table, nor should anyone have to get up and get their own utensils because of that assumption. Set it correctly each time, and all will be well. :001_smile: Oh, and we do not wash unused utensils.
  12. Do you mean she put hot tomatoes in the cans and put the tops on? I wouldn't think that was a good idea! Tomatoes in their jars need to be boiled for quite a while to kill botulism spores (and other things, I think). What was the method she used?
  13. My kids wouldn't have been able to enjoy a vacation that soon after having braces put on. They needed a very soft diet for a few days and were generally miserable for a few days (one of them for a week - I thought he was going to starve!). This is only our experience, though, and I see that others had little or no problem. I hope it works out well for you!
  14. Another vote for My Fitness Pal! They seem to have the largest database. I can type in my store brand food, and it always comes up. It is FREE! :001_smile:Good luck!
  15. I think it's really cute! I would think Jesse was a boy, btw.:)
  16. I had great customer service from them as well. :)
  17. Thank you for that. Really, I thought I was the only one! :auto: Oh, I do like it so much more now. :auto: I can use it in July, March, even January! How my world has expanded!
  18. So for years now, I have thought this :auto: was a red car with a Christmas tree on the back. I was looking for a car smilie, and dd said, "why not use that one?" "It is a Christmas smilie," I said. She politely pointed out that it was a convertible. :001_rolleyes: I am so excited that I am going to search for threads about driving!
  19. We used to drive from Oklahoma to New York twice a year. I honestly don't think we could have done it if we didn't drive through the night. The boys would have lost it in their car seats for that long. As it was, we couldn't make it without driving during some daylight hours, and it was terrible trying to get them back in their seats after we stopped! My dh did the bulk of the driving, and he did get very tired, but coffee and breaks helped tremendously! Whatever you decide, have a wonderful time. :001_smile::001_smile:
  20. I am trying to lose weight and realize that most of my problem is portion control and eating when I am not actually hungry. I had a nice supper a little over an hour ago, balanced with a good amount of fiber and enough protein. I swear I feel hungry, but that isn't possible. Sigh. I googled this problem and and have read countless books and articles on the subject of assessing hunger. I know I am not bored or emotional (right now, anyway:)). I have had enough water. I feel like I need more food to feel satisfied than most people, but unfortunately, that has translated into me needing to lose 50 pounds.:tongue_smilie: Obviously, I don't need it, I just want it. I guess I am just venting frustration with feeling hungry all the time. I guess it isn't terrible not to feel full, but I am so much more comfortable that way! Yikes, I sound like a glutton here! If you have any tips and/or have overcome this problem or have learned to live with it, please let me know. I desperately need to get this weight off!
  21. Oh, what a great accountability thread! Thanks for starting it! 1. I am desperately trying to stay away from drive-thrus and dollar menus because of poor planning and lack of motivation (i.e. laziness). I realized last month that we were doing this about once a week, at a cost of at least $50/month, probably more if I really analyzed it. 2. I also am trying to cut our food budget by cutting down on meat and not buying junk (no pop, little junk food). 3. I will be more mindful of the food we do have. We waste far too much food around here. :tongue_smilie: That's all I can think of at the moment, although I know there are many other ways we can cut back.
