  1. Not completely 100% yet but here is what we have in the works for 4th. Bible: Bible Reading, Catechisms and thinking of Stick Figuring Through the Bible Mathematics: Singapore SE 4A/4B with CWP and IP 3A Spelling: WRTR Grammar: R&S English 4 Writing: WWE, Copywork from McGuffey's, and written narrations for history, science, and literature, journals, and pen pals. McGuffey's reading plus daily line for copywork WWE (1 a day --- we do copywork for 2 days) so this is for 5 days a week Narrations: History, once a week, Science, once a week, literature, when we finish a book Pen pals: Once a week Journal Entry: Fridays THIS LOOKS LIKE A LOT BUT IN PRACTICUM IT'S REALLY WORKING, HE WRITES A LITTLE IN EACH AREA AND MAKES HIM FEEL LIKE HE ISN'T WRITING SO MUCH. History: SOTW Vol.4 (debating Biblioplan again). Science: Elemental Chemistry with interest led rabbit trails Literature: Lists that I have created from SOTW, WTM, Sonlight, Memoria, Books Children Love, Great Books, Mensa, etc. Logic: Critical Thinking Company Handwriting: not sure yet, doing WRTR cursive (he needs help though) so I am considering going back to HWOT and/or getting a cursive copywork book. Not sure. Logic: Prima Latina going into Christiana Latin Art: Artistic Pursuits K-3 Book 2 Music: Piano lessons Oh, I also have FUFI which I might use....we are planning on reading all of the Chronicles of Narnia this year as well as the Lord of the Rings....
  2. Same here add in Roald Dahl, the Warriors series and just recently Hardy Boys and Animorphs. He LOVES encyclopedias! :)
  3. I am reading it and really liked it. I implemented the toys philosophy, we already have a very moderate t.v. policy in place. I have not finished it but I really have enjoyed it so far and find myself agreeing with a lot of the philosophy.
  4. Thank you for reminding me about these, I LOVED Hatchet when I was growing up but couldn't remember for what age it is best suited. I know our library has these, I will have to pick them up.
  5. Horrible Histories and the Slimy Science ones as well, Hardy Boys, Jean Fritz books, and several of the things others have already mentioned and if I let him he would literally read encyclopedias for fun all the time. He loves encyclopedias. He likes the Warrior Series as well but that is fantasy.
  6. I use the Well-Planned Day and I really like it. I use it like a list and just check things off as we accomplish them. I like the Bible verses, the catechism, the month at a glance and the semesters are broken down. I plan to purchase one for this next year as well, it gets the job done for us.
  7. What is your favorite handwriting for both print and cursive and why? I have tried HWOT and WRTR (I prefer WRTR for print) haven't yet attempted cursive but I don't quite think I like the way the cursive looks....what do you use and love? Oh, I like the *look* of Italics but it doesn't look like it follows "traditional" cursive....?
  8. I had issues with this as well. I ended up dragging a photo from facebook to my desktop and then uploading it. It worked! I am so NOT technologically savvy. Sorry, I cannot be of more help. The gray and white photo might have put me in an asylum it was so obnoxious. Maybe you can give that a try? Sorry, I have no other suggestions. But now that Ellie is now a photo whiz as well as the Resident Spalding expert she can teach you? :)
  9. We started in January (DS8) and he LOVES it. We use MP Prima Latina and I really like it, it's easy, straight forward and gets accomplished. Best part? My son asks to do Latin everyday. :)
  10. DS8 still actively plays with cars, legos, GI Joes, action figures, and Nerf things, I would say it's going to be several more years for us.
  11. Thank you for sharing her precious life with me. :grouphug:
  12. So, we began the Spalding method using The Writing Road to Reading in January, my son is a wonderful and avid reader but an atrocious speller. We had only been homeschooling for about a year and I was at my wit's end with spelling and guessing. Enter WRTR, wow. Yesterday and today he has done his oral and written review and gotten all 70 phonograms correct. He is growing in confidence. Already trying to analyze words and seeing the phonograms inside of words he is reading. Wonderful. I was so intimidated before. I had tried AAS, thought about LOE, purchased Apples and Pears, Spelling Power, R&S and I can say that once I got the manual down and emailed Ellie numerous times, my own confidence has increased and I am so excited to see him catching on. So, I just wanted to share with you all about the progress we have made so for now there will not be any spelling posts advice needed from me. ;) For now.
  13. I was reading on another thread about Singapore SE and US. I have been using US but just ordered SE and the next US in 3B for my son. We have been using 3A US and I wanted to compare. Would it not be advisable to begin SE in the middle of doing US? We have completed 3A US and would begin 3B SE....hm?
  14. I suppose I just use like to tell the OP that I agree with what was written in the post I like. Sometimes it just seems redundant to write, I agree, unless I really have something to add. Although, even if I add something to someone's post I usually 'like' theirs and then add to it. I also like somethings to show that I read the response but I didn't have anything to add....that way the poster knows they were "heard" in a sense..... So....basically for me it's my agree, amen, concur button! :)
  15. I have a K'er and PreK'er and third grader who use Artistic Pursuits and it's very minimal mom intensive and easy to get accomplished and makes me feel like, YAY! We did art, my kids love it.
  16. What a neat question to read, I can think of many things but I am trying to get started for the day, so maybe I will add something later. My parents did somethings that I don't like but I look now from the perspective of a parent and I know their hearts were in the right place and they were sincere in their efforts to do their best.
  17. I agree that it was a learning curve with the writing style. Even when I would go to a different read aloud I had to adjust to the new writer's "voice". Overall, it worked for us. I'm sure it's not for everyone.
  18. We actually loved Om-kas-toe it was one of our favorite books so far this year. Even my four year old wanted to hear more everyday, it was an easy read as well. I would keep it. Oh, and I would agree with the assessment of Pedro's Journal, we put it down it was very, meh. We loved Sign of the Beaver (which is SL Core D) it was also one of our favorites. However, we took about 6 weeks at the beginning of Early Modern History to study Native North American tribes and groups. it was so great.
  19. I have always wondered this as well. I have been using US Edition and have been hearing that Standards Edition offered more review (which I feel like my son can benefit from). Long story short, when I just re-ordered for 3B I ordered both SE and US so I can see and feel and look and compare for myself. Not sure what we will do yet, I will let you know. Seeing as I am not overly "mathy" I feel like the extra hand holding might be beneficial for us. So, I am listening in with you! :)
  20. Walking, hiking, biking, running, swimming, and tennis. Although, I haven't played in awhile, it's difficult with so few courts here as well as the need for a good partner to volley with. :)
  21. We love R&S grammar, I thought because it seemed so traditional that I would not like it. My son 3rd grade and myself really like it. I think it is thorough, clear, and gets accomplished without complaint. I really see us sticking with it for the long haul. I was going to try MCT, ordered it and realized it wasn't going to work for us. In theory it looked nice but in practical application, I didn't see it getting accomplished. We were using FLL 3 and I wanted to poke my eyes out, while I really like FLL 1&2 and plan to use them in the future I vastly prefer R&S from there on. We also tried Primary Language Lessons and Intermediate Language Lessons (which I like but I wanted something more explicit for instruction). It takes us about 20 minutes, he's retaining the information, and we both like it. :) HTH.
  22. :D Hahaha! I enjoy drama free but that's because I come from a family of 7 and there is always SOMETHING going on there.
  23. I like waking early, to workout, have quiet time, etc. I used to HATE to see the world before 8-9. I have grown to love the earlier time if I could just get to bed earlier. However, it's only 7pm in Japan so I am up! :)
